Scope of Work
This method statement is applicable for the Installation & Commissioning of 1TMonorail EOT Crane-1 No.
Field of Application: Area of application shall as follows;
•

Purpose
•
This method statement defines the procedures to be followed for the installation &
commissioning of Monorail crane on the newly constructed building.
•
The aim of the method statement is to set out the procedures, Precautions to observe
during unloading, storage, lifting and shifting of material, Installation Sequence, and
related commissioning works.

MATERIALS
Material Receipt
•
The materials received at site stores / Site shall be checked for manufacture details,
as per delivery note to ensure delivery is correct.
•
Verification of Quantity as per Delivery Notes, the Packing list, Country of origin
certificates.
•
Respective Information’s will be conveyed to Site Engineer for arrangement of
unloading.
Material Handling
•
Use hand gloves for shifting / unloading / loading / handling etc.
•
Offloading will be done and shall be kept in suitable locations near the area that where
to be installed.
Material Storage
•
Proper storage as per the site requirement.
•
Store Crane & Accessories on flat surfaces.
•
Protect the Crane& Accessories from the ingress foreign objects.
•
Damaged materials should keep in designated area and tagged.
•
If the equipment needs to be stored at site prior to installation on its final location, the
storage location shall be secure, safe, and free from works or activities that might
cause damage to the item.
General Work Methodology
Preparatory works – Monorail Crane Installation & Commissioning
•
Used of approved Ladder / Scaffolding/ Other Lifting Accessories under supervision.
•
Check all required Harness are used.
•
To fix the monorail beams on the roof, ensure that the concrete foundation bolts are
in the right place and the flanges are fixed.
•
The monorail beam will be lifted and fixed to the concrete roof beam by using chain
blocks
•
All fasteners must be tightened as per the torque table, Once the monorail is fixed to
the concrete beams
•
All required groundwork for work on heights shall be checked.
•
Monorail beam level & Alignments to be verified before start the Crane installation
•
Electrical isolation to be check before the fixing of Cranes and Other Electrical
equipment’s
•
Lift the crane unit by using chain block/forklift or Other Lifting Machinery to fix it on
the monorail travel beam.
•
Fixing of Fasteners, C-Rails, other EOT crane power supply accessories by using manlift/Approved Scaffoldings
•
The following activity to be done before commissioning the EOT Crane
a. Verification the panel wiring connection
b. Verification all other safety devices wiring connection
c. Verification of Isolator and Incoming Power Supply
d. Verification of Festoon Alignment
e. Verification of Runway beam (if any obstruction to travel)
•
To check all the functions are working normally by using temporary/permanent power
supply.
•
Set the Hoist Limit Switches, and Travel Safety Limit switches
•
Once the commissioning completed, the third-party load tests will be conducted and
handed over to the client with final acceptance documents & report.
DETAILED INSTALLATION & COMMISSIONING METHODOLOGY:
Pre-Installation
Before starting the work, the team will check the civil structure to ensure that the supports
and clearances match the approved drawings. All necessary tools, materials, lifting
equipment, and safety gear will be arranged at the site. A safety briefing (toolbox talk) will
be given to all team members to explain the job process and safety precautions.
Beam Erection
The monorail beam will be erected over the civil structure using manual lifting equipment
such as chain blocks and scaffolding or support frames. The beam will be carefully lifted and
guided into position on the support brackets. Once placed, the alignment and level will be
checked using a spirit level or laser. Temporary tack welding or bolting will be done to hold
the beam securely. After confirming its position, final welding or bolting will be completed.
Any rough edges will be cleaned, and touch-up paint will be applied if required. End stops
will be installed on both ends of the beam to prevent the trolley from running off.
Hoist Installation
Electric chain hoist with trolley will be mounted on the installed monorail beam. The
movement of the trolley will be checked to ensure smooth travel. Electrical power will be
connected to the hoist from the isolator. Festoon system will be installed to support the
control cables. The operation of the limit switches, emergency stop, and pendant control will
be tested.
Commissioning & Site acceptance Load Test:
Before conducting the load test, a complete pre-test inspection is carried out. This includes
visual checks of all mechanical and electrical components such as the hoist, trolley, limit
switches, pendant control, and monorail beam. The system is tested under no-load
conditions to ensure smooth up/down and left/right movements, proper brake function, and
responsive controls. The structural beam, which is mounted on the civil framework, is also
inspected for alignment, level, and secure fixing as per the approved drawings.
The initial test is performed at the rated load capacity of the hoist, which in this case is 1
ton. This test confirms that the hoist can lift and move the full rated load safely without any
performance issues. Once verified, the load test progresses to the overload stage, where
the hoist is tested with 125% of its rated capacity, which amounts to 1.25 tons. The test
weight used must be calibrated and certified. The overload test is conducted slowly and
steadily, lifting the test weight under controlled conditions and holding it in the air for
approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This allows for observation of the hoist’s response under
stress, including brake holding, gear performance, and beam behavior. The lifting area is
always barricaded, and only trained and authorized personnel are allowed inside during
testing.
The procedure follows safety protocols aligned with local regulations such as PDO
specifications, OQ guidelines standards within Oman. The entire process will be witnessed
by an approved third-party inspector.
After the test, a detailed inspection is conducted to check for any structural deformation,
overheating, or irregularities in hoist performance.
On successful completion, the equipment is certified and test certificates are issued.
Safety Measures
All person involved in activity will wear full personal protective equipment (PPE), including
safety shoes, gloves, helmets, and high-visibility vests. Only trained and certified
electricians and rigging technicians will perform the electrical and lifting works. The work
area will be cordoned off to avoid access by unauthorized personnel. Fire extinguishers will
be kept nearby during welding. Lock-out/tag-out procedures will be followed during
electrical connection and testing.
Inspection and Handover
Upon completion, the full system will be handed overed to the project/site engineer. Thirdparty load test certificates will be included in the final dozer.
Health and Safety Control Measures
Safety
•
Safety risk assessment shall be performed for every job or task, which has the
potential for harm.
•
Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available with all the workers involved
in the installation / erection work.
•
All required equipment and tools should be checked before start of work for suitability
and integrity.
•
Necessary permits like cold work permit, hot work permit, lifting permit to be obtained
as per the site requirement.
Risk Assessment
In addition to their safety induction received at their arrival on site, all workers will
have a toolbox meeting and briefed about the risks of their specific work task, prior
to start of works. A relevant risk assessment is attached.
Protective & Safety Equipment

Welding and Grinding work - Safety helmet, safety boots, Dust masks, safety glasses,
Welding Helmet with protective glasses
Environment Issues
•
In general, Environmental issues arising from the construction activities covered in
the scope of this Method Statement are mainly:
Mitigation Measures
•
Appropriate Mask should be used.
•
General Housekeeping rules for all operatives shall be observed.
•
Noise level shall be monitored to assess the impact to operatives involved into this
construction activity directly and shall be provided earplugs if necessary.
