你好 Mr. … (the company leaders), 你好 to managers, 你好 to everyone here.
It’s truly an honor for me to have the opportunity to speak in front of all of you today. My name is
Alvy Herawati but you can call me Alvy, or Le Yu’an as for my Chinese name. I am from Indonesia,
a country known for its rich cultural diversity, abundant natural resources, and incredible variety
of plants and animals. However, what makes it even more unique is its people; Indonesia is home
to more than 1,300 ethnic groups, all are live here. And I’ve spent my whole life in this country,
never had a chance to explore other parts of the world. Until now.
Yes, this is my first time going abroad.
While some people might think traveling to another country is something easy or ordinary, for me,
it’s not. Because you know, I come from a small village. My father is a farmer and my mother
runs a small shop. There was a time when all we could think about was how to survive just for one
more day..
Not to mention, in my big family and among most of my neighborhood, our lives is only just like
in a small bubble. We born, grow up, work, and die in the same place and city. So, the idea of going
far away, seeing different cultures, learning technologies, and experiencing it directly are like
something bizzare and uncommon.
But, despite all of those things and no matter how many words I’ve heard from them doubting me,
this is what I do: I ALWAYS DARE TO DREAM BIG.
So, to those who daoubted me, I said, “No, I don’t want to be an ordinary village girl whose life
depends on others. And, No, I don’t want people tell me or decide what I can or cannot do. Instead,
I want to be independent, impactful, and meaningful to other people, to my beautiful country.”
Then, while keeping those words in mind, here I am. I have the opportunity to learn from and with
all of you at CCEPC headquaster and at Hubei Urban Construction Vocational and Technological
College.
In here, we will not only just experience a different culture or admire the beauty of Wuhan city,
but more than that, we will get something valuable, something so important that according to the
history of any humankind, this is the key towards civilization prosperity. And that thing is called
KNOWLEDGE.
With knowledge, we can change our lives or even better help others to improve their lives. With
knowledge, we have the freedom to choose our own paths. With knowledge, we will open so much
more of wider and bigger opportunities that we couldn’t have imagined before.
So, I would like to say thank you to CCEPC for accommodating this program and giving us the
opportunity to gain deeper knowledge about the company’s technology. To my fellow Indonesian
friends, I want to say: “Guys, this is a whole new season for us.”
Over the past 2-3 months, we’ve worked hard in Weda Bay. We have experienced the dynamics
environment and how things were done in on-site construction projects. We have seen the
installation of power plant, sulfuric acid plant, water treatment systems, gas treatment systems,
and even the construction of high-rise buildings, while understanding the work flow of each
process and system. Thank you for our amazing mentors and managers who always eager to teach
us.
And, let’s be proud of ourselves. We’ve made it through everything so far. Now, as we begin our
new chapter in Wuhan, with new amazing mentors and coworkers, we were asked to move
backwards, to understanding the process behind the curtains and yet so critical that all of the
process we’ve seen in Weda Bay depends on it. Yes, we will study about the core technology of
how things are built, like how to design the eco friendly power plant, how is the principle of
treating the exhaust gas, solid waste, and water, and how to remediate contaminated land, directly
from the experts.
So, let’s maximize this opportunity to study and learn as much as we can, so that we can bring this
knowledge and technology to Indonesia, applying it to our country so that our people and future
generation won’t have to worry about poor air quality, unsafe water, or untreated waste.
And no matter how hard the process is, let’s face it together and always remember that we’re not
alone. We have mentors to guide us and we have each other to support.
For that, I want to quote one of the famous Chinese proverb, I am sorry if my pronounciation isn’t
perfect:
Rén xīn qí, Tàishān yí —
It means. “When people work with one heart, they can even move Mount Tai.”. So, let’s study,
work, and grow together until we reach the point that make Mount Tai itself doesn’t realize we are
moving it.
And while we’re on this journey, don’t forget to enjoy the beauty of Wuhan city and all the
wonderful things in China.
I am Alvy, thank you for your attention.
Mandarin Translation:
Weda
Bay
