Students’ analytic and problem solving skills are developed through analysis of impacts including non-elastic deformation, orientation of the reference axes, and how materials fail. Using knowledge about materials, students evaluate impacts on materials, the mechanisms to control properties of materials, and use mathematical calculations and techniques to determine stresses and strains on simple components. Overall, students develop the capacity to select appropriate materials and improve mechanical design 1.2 What is Expected of You Study Load A student is expected to study an hour per credit point a week. For example a 10 credit point Subject would require 10 hours of study per week. This time includes the time spent within classes during lectures, tutorials or practicals. Note for Summer Terms: As Summer subjects deliver the same content and classes over a shorter period of time, the subjects are run in a more intensive mode. Regardless of the delivery mode, the study hours for each subject in Summer will be around 30 hours. Attendance It is strongly recommended that students attend all scheduled learning activities to support their learning. Approach to Learning Lecture: The lectures will explain the theory behind the skills in learning out comes 1 to 8. Lecture Tutorial: The Lecture-Tutes will give sample worked solutions for some of the tutorial questions. Tutorial: The tutes will allow students to work through the tutorial questions with experienced tutors present to assist. Practical: The Lab Classes will instruct and assess students ability to take measurements in the real world, and use them to verify the theory presented in the lectures. vUWS: Announcements,tutorial questions, and tutorial solutions will be provided viav UWS site. Online Learning Requirements Subject materials will be made available on the Subject’s vUWS (E-Learning) site (https://vuws.westernsydney. edu.au/). Feedback is any written or spoken response made in relation to academic work such as an assessment task, a performance or product. Multiple choice questions and the order of the answers are assigned to students randomly. Therefore, everyone will get different questions and different answers. However the difficulty of the questions for everyone is same. This is a time-limited quiz. Once commenced, you have a maximum of 15 minutes to complete each quiz. Your mark will be based entirely on your answer entered online. Do NOT submit your working.
