Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB)
Diversity
Diversity in a workplace refers to the variety of differences among people, including race,
ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, physical abilities,
religious and political beliefs, as well as diversity of thought and experiences.
Equity
Equity is about ensuring fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all
individuals. It recognizes that some people may need different support or resources to
reach equal outcomes due to systemic barriers or disadvantages.
Inclusion
Inclusion means creating an environment in which all individuals feel respected, accepted,
and valued. An inclusive workplace enables all employees to fully participate, contribute,
and thrive regardless of their background or identity.
Belonging
Belonging is the emotional outcome of inclusion. When people feel they belong, they feel
accepted and connected to their workplace. They trust that their contributions matter and
that their identities are respected and celebrated.
The Role of Human Resources in DEIB

Ally
An ally is an individual who uses their position or privilege to support and advocate for
marginalized or underrepresented groups. Allies stand with others, even if they are not
directly affected by the issue.
Allyship
Allyship is an active and ongoing practice of listening, learning, and taking meaningful
actions to support equity and inclusion. It involves:
• Listening to the experiences of others without judgment.
• Educating oneself about systemic inequality and personal biases.
• Speaking up when observing exclusion, bias, or discrimination.
• Advocating for inclusive policies and practices.
• Sharing opportunities and platforms to amplify others’ voices.
