Contemporary arts in the Philippines encompasses both traditional and modern
expressions. It reflects the country's culture, history, and the diverse voices of its people.
And Filipino contemporary artists have started specializing in various forms such us
drawing,painting,sculpting and even new technologies like Bio-Art and digital collage. In
other words Philippine contemporary art is the fusion of old and new. Additionally it is the
voice of the people as artists use their work to express their views on societal issues,
politics, human rights, concern for the environment and other relevant issues. Diversity and
dynamism is another characteristic of the Philippine contemporary art in the Philippines.
One style does not define the Philippine contemporary art, but a rather dynamic blend of
styles, themes, and techniques.
There are countless artists who have made a significant impact on the Philippine
contemporary art. Here are some notable artist who have really made an impact with their
individual styles and creative work.
Benedicto Cabrera: Also known as Bencab who's a national artist known for his paintings
depicting Filipino life. His work greatly expresses the social and political landscape of the
Philippines.

Now Contemporary Philippine Art wouldn't have evolved to being rich, diverse, and everevolving if it wasn't for the various art movements that have shaped it over the years. Some
of these influential movements are:
1. Modernism. That broke away traditional art forms and introduced abstract art,
expressionism, cubism and such.
2. Neo-realism. Which portrays reality with a new perspective by using everyday scenes
and common people subjects. Hence the "realism"
3. Post-modernism. That is about challenging the norms and conventions of art. It
embraces diversity, contradiction, and tearing down boundaries in art.
4. Conceptual Art. Which artists prioritize ideas over the visual components of art. Often
used by Philippines artists to critique social, political, and cultural issues.
For some, Philippine contemporary art or contemporary art in general might feel
overwhelming at first. The people might not understand it at first. But a way to appreciate
this art is not by looking only on whats in the surface but also the deep aspects of it.Notice
