INTEGRATING THE WITNESS.
Common Language which refers to the witness.
•
Find your balance
•
Remain centered
•
Take a neutral position
•
Remain calm.
•
“She got to the core of things.”
Think of our bodies:
•
•
We have two hands, two arms, two ears, two eyes, two legs.
•
When we want to center in our bodies where do we go ? Do we go to the left arm or the right arm?
•
What is one within the body ?
We have one heart, one spine. This is the centering aspect of the body.

THE VOICE IN ONE’S HEAD.
• Within our Human design, we have a part of us that is critical,
judgmental, partial.
•
It is loud and can clearly be heard within our heads.
• The voice in our head.
• Do this, think that, this is wrong, I don’t like that etc.
•
It feels threatened and therefore tries to control and direct, take
charge.
• It is the voice that we most often listen to and react to.
When you recognize that there is a voice in your head that
pretends to be you and never stops speaking, you are
awakening out of your unconscious identification with the
stream of thinking.
When you notice that voice, you realize that who you are is
not the voice – the thinker but the one who is aware of it.
Eckhart Tolle.
• For Example “Look what he did. This is unfair and wrong. I cannot
believe he did this. This is unacceptable. I will need to make this
right. He is always doing this. And another thing look what he did
yesterday. I will never forgive him for that. He needs to be taught
a lesson. He will never stop otherwise.”

Consider:
THE VOICE IN ONE’S HEAD.
When you bring your awareness to
the voice in your head what
happens?
What is the agenda of this voice?
If we listen to it and believe it , then
we must believe that it is our
teacher or guide?

VOICE IN THE HEAD EXERCISE
• The Voice in our heads is often an internalized parent. It takes on the characteristics of one or
both of our parents.
• Contemplate one’s own voice in one’s head ?
• Who does it sound like ? What attributes or archetypes can one discern from it?
• I.e. strict, perfectionist, judgmental, policeman, judge, teacher, righteous, worrying, moralistic,
laid back, rebel etc.

ATTENTION
First Attention
• Most of the time we are thinking, editing our speech, acting, performing, engaging etc.
• This is the stream of doing. Always busy interpreting, fixating, acting, moving.
• The part of us that is always doing something is called the Do-er.
• It is our active part and it is way over stimulated.
• It is continually present until we collapse into bed at night.
• This is called the First Attention(conscious or unconscious)
• However we all had the experience of observing our self doing things.
• We have all observed ourselves being reactive, saying certain things, thinking other things, making decisions.
• This part of us that can observe ourselves doing things is called the Second Attention.
Second Attention
• The Second Attention is also always present. It is obscured by the First attention.
• It is the realm of being.
• Are we human beings or human doings? It depends on where our attention is.
• The Witness is the Second Attention.

ATTENTION
• What obscures the Second Attention ?
• Continuous stream of thinking
• Past / future orientation
• Overstimulated nervous system
• Our childhood programming focusing on the material world
• Monkey mind
• Why is our attention most often in the First Attention ?
• Simply we are unaware of anything else but the voice
• Being busy as a way of meeting our needs ( I need work to survive)
• Using “busyness” to avoid feeling or being present
• Unhealed wounds
• Societal pressure to conform to its reliance on doing

INTEGRATING THE WITNESS
Justice is blind.
•
In the statue of Justice, Lady Justice is wearing a blind fold? Why ?
•
She has covered up her eyes so she can be impartial to offer true justice.
•
This implies that our sight or what we perceive is the origin of prejudice or partiality.
•
From the enquiry into the principle of projection, we understand how this works in terms of
the mind having preferences which are then projected out through the eyes.
•
If the eyes see people as a body then that is what is judged.
•
If one perceives oneself as a body or a personality with a body , then this is who one thinks
one is.
The Second attention has the ability to perceive one’s body, thoughts and
personality doing things.
The Second attention is outside of the construct of one’s personality and this is
why it plays such an important role in Self – discovery.

PERSONAL SELF
What is one’s description or idea of who one thinks, one is?
This might include one’s name, physical characteristics , looks, personal life history, family relationships, title, career
achievements, culture, religion etc.
This is the personal identity. It is a perceived identity through the 5 senses and one’s cognitive(mental) abilities.
Within this personal identification, one has the mental ability to reason, discern and will for oneself -- choices, actions, behaviors,
beliefs…
Thus, one has a will that is conscious and aware.
This is one’s conscious will.
Advanced discovery work is the direction of one’s conscious will (reason, discernment and will power) to uncover one’s true
identity.
This might be termed Conscious First Attention -- consciously directing one’s focus.

ATTENTION AND SELFDISCOVERY.
Conscious First Attention
• The ability to direct one’s focus through one’s will.
Second Attention
In our second Know
Thyself Workshop we
will deal more with
the stages of
witnessing towards
self- realization.
• The ever present awareness that observes without
judgment. The Witness.
Third Attention
• Awareness of all creation. The Witness of the Witness.

INTEGRATING THE WITNESS
“The Witness is the part of one that can observe one’s personality
programming in the light of ultimate reality.”

INTEGRATING THE WITNESS
Why is it important to witness in Self-discovery?
1.
Witnessing allows one to be able to uncover deep emotional wounding of oneself and remain balanced and centered.
•
Initially it might take longer to bring oneself back to this centered state( rooted in the heart).
•
As the witness is developed and integrated so eventually one never leaves this state.
• For example, imagine one uncovers one’s manipulative pattern in one’s business dealings.. Knowing this without a
witness, would be counter productive in the following ways:
2.
This might make one feel depressed that one has uncovered this.
•
One then berated oneself for all of the past business dealings only making one feel worse (guilt).
•
If one thought that this is who one really is (I am manipulative).
•
If one thought that there is no way of changing this pattern (one’s identity).
•
This is why it is crucial to develop a neutral observer who can observe without judgment and self re-crimination.
The more one can continue to feel and still be in the witness, the greater one heals. To heal is to feel.
•
3.
•
Stuck emotional energy is dissolved as one holds a centered position (witnessing) in the midst of intense emotion.
The Witness being the Higher Self is the doorway to full self-realization.

THE HIGHER SELF AS THE WITNESS
•
There is another voice in our head.
•
It is continually present and in a state of peace, balance and
harmony.
•
It is a quiet voice and therefore not often heard even though it is
ever in direct communication.
•
It continually bridges our consciousness and ultimate reality.
•
This voice does not command because it is not arrogant.
•
It does not demand either because it does not seek control.
•
This is the Higher Self.
•
The Higher Self is our guide in choosing.
•
It observes our behavior yet does not judge it.
•
Through observation and wisdom is knows exactly how to reach
us and teach us, if we allow it to.
•
This is our choice.
•
Ask for It to guide and direct, and it will be so.
ONEHEALINGPRESENCE
15
Ask for a Witness. This is crucial. Ask to be guided as often as one can remember.
Every time one asks, the relationship with the Higher Self is strengthened. This increases one’s ability to witness
personality programming.
Slow down one’s life.
Take awareness breaks.
Focus on one’s breath. As soon as one is aware of one’s breath, one is already witnessing.
After an emotional outburst, ask for support.
Mantra for the Witness. I am not this. I AM THAT. (Taken from Sanskrit)
