Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning
• Mathematical Reasoning:
The process of making logical connections, forming arguments, and using
abstract thinking to solve problems.
Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning
• Key Elements:
• Problem-solving: Applying mathematical knowledge to real-world or
abstract problems.
• Logical Thinking: Drawing conclusions based on premises or patterns
• Pattern Recognition: Identifying relationships and structures in
problems.
Key Strategies for Enhancing Mathematical Reasoning
1. Real-World Problem Solving
Strategy: Integrate math problems with real-world applications in other subjects.
Example:

Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning
The Cordillera Central or Cordillera Range is a massive mountain range 320 kilometres (200 mi)
long north–south and 118 kilometers (73 mi) east-west situated in the north-central part of the island
of Luzon, in the Philippines. The mountain range encompasses all provinces of the Cordillera
Administrative Region (Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province), as well as
portions of eastern Ilocos Norte, eastern Ilocos Sur, eastern La Union, northeastern Pangasinan,
western Nueva Vizcaya, and western Cagayan.
Kalinga's highest point, Mount Alchan, reaches an
elevation of 2,617 meters (8,586 ft), while Apayao's
highest point, Mount Lungod, is at 1,921 meters (6,302
ft).
Ifugao is a mountainous province in the Philippines, with
its highest elevation at Mount Pulag, reaching 2,928
meters (9,606 feet).

Now its your Turn…
Given the objective, apply mathematical reasoning in your lesson…
• Problem-solving: Applying mathematical knowledge to real-world or
abstract problems.
• Logical Thinking: Drawing conclusions based on premises or patterns
• Pattern Recognition: Identifying relationships and structures in problems.
Conclusion
Key Takeaway: Mathematical reasoning is not just for math class—it is a critical
skill that enhances learning in all subjects.
Final Thought: By integrating mathematical reasoning into daily learning,
students develop a deeper, more holistic understanding of both math and the
world around them.
