Leadership Reflection
Taking the Conceptualizing Leadership Questionnaire really made me think about how I
see leadership in my own life. Based on my responses, it’s clear that I tend to view leadership
more as something that’s built through relationships and developed as a process, rather than
something people are just born with. I don't see leadership as being about having a specific title
or natural talent, it’s more about how you work with others and grow into the role over time.
Scoring high in the relationship category showed me that I place a lot of value on how
leaders connect with others. To me, leadership is about being approachable, showing empathy,
and making people feel heard and supported. I’ve always believed that trust and communication
are at the heart of good leadership. Whether it's in group projects, work settings, or everyday
interactions, I try to lead by creating an environment where people feel safe to contribute.
The emphasis on leadership as a process also hit home. I don’t think leadership is something
you just "have" it’s something you practice and learn as you go. Every situation teaches you
something new, and every team requires a slightly different approach. This mindset helps me stay
flexible and open to feedback. I try not to lead from a place of authority but from shared
understanding and mutual respect.
On the other hand, my lowest scores were in the trait and ability areas. That made sense to
me. I’ve never believed that you have to be born a leader or have some special skill set to be
effective. I think anyone can lead, depending on the situation and their willingness to grow and
help others succeed. Leadership isn’t limited to a certain type of person, and I think that's a
powerful idea.
Reflecting on this has helped me realize that my natural leadership style leans heavily toward
collaboration and relationship-building. As I continue to grow professionally and personally, I
want to keep building on that foundation. Understanding my own approach gives me more
clarity and confidence in how I show up as a leader, and how I can keep improving
