Pride-Building at Aramark
A Case Study
Questions:
1. What motivation theories apply to the workers at Aramark? Why do you say so?
The manager Roy Palaez used the theories of process-based perspectives on
motivation because he motivates his employees with satisfaction like building
and having a strong and healthy connection between members. On equity
theory, he treats his employees fairly because his goal is to cut off the labor
cost spend by the company, by that we encourage his employees to clean
airplanes and he sees that cleaning not a disgusting job to do and cleaning it
is not a punishment instead, he foresees cleaning as an approach to make his
employees satisfy on having rewards or cash prizes when they return
passengers belongings. Then, Expectancy theory where he highlighted the
components, the effort to performance were all efforts by his employees will
lead to successful performance. Next performances to outcome were the
performances will result in good outcomes then, good outcomes which are
recognitions like the employee of the month, increases of salary, cash prizes,
and rewards.
2. If you were the manager of these employees, what would you do to motivate them?
Be honest regarding your personal management style and beliefs rather than trying
to be like Roy Pelaez. Why do you believe that it is the most appropriate method?
Being honest to personal management style and belief by Roy Pelaez is a great
method in motivating employees, This will not only help on a good flow of
progress to the business this also enhances employee engagement because
this is the building of trust, relationship and boundaries to each member of the
organization. Then, the manager also said “Managers are not supposed to get
involved with the personal problems of their employees, but I take the opposite
view,” which means as a manager he will not participate or involve to his or her
employee’s personal life but if the employee’s performance will be affected by
it, he will be the one to guide the employee.
3. What are some possible barriers to the effectiveness of your motivation ideas? What
could you do to overcome them?
Based on my experiences, some barriers to effectiveness to motivation ideas
are past experiences for example when you fail to a test then the only
motivation you will receive is to study and time management, but it is not
effective, the motivation idea will not be accepted by the person because just
like the phrase “been there, done that”. To overcome this situation, the
consistent way of motivation should be disregarded instead come up with new
approaches and styles for example, rather than motivate them verbally, you
can motivate them by suggesting them to watch inspirational videos that will
help boost their self- esteem. Another is, accidents or injuries may by that,
doing activities or tasks will be risky. To overcome accidents and injuries in a
given task, there should have training and seminars and to the speaker, or the
manager that will handle this job, giving and sharing the testaments, past
experiences, and documents doing the tasks, will help on to assuring safety.
