UX Design Case: LocalConnect Feature for
GlobalConnect
Background
Scenario
GlobalConnect is introducing a “LocalConnect” feature for people living in the U.S. who
have family and friends in their home country. This feature allows users to get a local
phone number from their home country for a monthly fee. Friends and family in their home
country can call this local number without additional charges. Users will assign the phone
numbers for their friends and family to their new local number through the app. This
ensures that calls to the local number are correctly routed to the user in the U.S. The
feature is designed to make communication easier, reduce costs, and provide peace of
mind.
User insights
●​ Interest - Over 80% of surveyed users expressed interest in obtaining a local
phone number to make communication easier and more affordable for their loved
ones.
●​ Emotional motivation - Users shared that they often feel burdened by always
having to initiate calls because their family and friends back home cannot afford
international calling rates or lack data for apps like WhatsApp.
●​ Pain points - People in their home country rely on WhatsApp for communication,
but limited access to data makes this unreliable. A local number solves this issue by
providing an affordable and simple way to stay connected.
GlobalConnect Objectives with LocalConnect
(1)​ Add value and create customer retention - By offering local numbers,
GlobalConnect aims to provide added value and encourage users to remain
subscribed to retain their local number.
(2)​ New revenue and margin generation - Each local number costs GlobalConnect $1
per month. The goal is to set a monthly fee that generates profit while remaining
affordable for users.
Technical/Commercial Requirements
●​ Each user will feel like they are assigned a unique local number, but to make the
feature financially viable, local numbers are shared among multiple users.
●​ To ensure correct call routing, users need to assign specific contacts to their local
number through the app by:
○​ Manually entering phone numbers.
○​ Importing numbers from their phone’s contact list.
○​ Selecting contacts from their recent call history.
●​ There is no limit to how many contacts users can assign to their local number.
The Task
Design a proposal for the app flow to onboard users to the LocalConnect feature. Include
the following deliverables:
1.​ Key app screens wireframes, such as:
●​ Feature introduction.
●​ Contact assignment flow.
●​ Confirmation screen.
●​ Sharing options for the local number.
2.​ Annotations explaining your design decisions.
3.​ A brief pricing strategy for the feature, explaining how it should be sold (e.g., as
part of a subscription plan or a standalone monthly fee).

●​ The flow should be simple, clear, and encourage users to complete the process (e.g.,
assigning contacts and sharing their number with family and friends).
