Primary group is a small social group whose members share personal and lasting relationships (Macionis, 2012). Secondary group is a large and impersonal social group whose members pursue a specific goal or activity (Macionis, 2012). In-group is a social group toward which a member feels respect and loyalty (Macionis, 2012). Out-group is a social group toward which a person feels a sense of competition or opposition (Macionis, 2012). Network is a group containing people who come into occasional contact but who lack a sense of boundaries and belonging (Macionis, 2012).
