WHAT IS A NETWORK
WHAT IS A NETWORK
A computer network is a system that allows two
or more devices to connect and communicate. A
network can be as small as two devices, or as big
as billions of devices connected together. The
devices in a network can be connected using cables
or wireless signals such as Wi-Fi. A network can
have many different types of devices such as
computers, servers, smartphones, televisions,
gaming consoles, smart appliances, and other
electronics. There are 3 main types of networks,
PAN, LAN, & WAN,
THENETWORKS

THE 3 TYPES OF
NETWORKS
PAN: Personal Area Network
LAN: Local Area Network
WAN: Wide Area Network
PAN
PAN
PAN is the smallest type of
network, it connects devices
around a user. The devices in a
PAN are very close together,
usually in the same room. PAN
networks are used for the
personal needs of a user, and
devices in this network belong
to the user.
Examples of PAN in daily
lives:
Mobile hotspot
Smartwatch
connected to phone
Listening to music
through bluetooth
headphones
LAN
LAN
LAN networks can connect
small or large number of
devices, limited to specific
areas like buildings or sites.
Devices in a LAN can be
connected using wired or
wireless connection and are
owned by the user or company
that created the LAN
Examples of LAN in daily
life:
Home Wi-Fi
School computing lab
network
Office network
WAN
WAN
WAN networks are used to
connect a small or large
number devices over large
distances such as cities or
countries. They can be
connected using wired or
wireless connections,
sometimes both. The devices in
WANs belong to users &
companies such as an ISP.
Examples OF WAN in daily life:
The internet
Online gaming servers
Google, Youtube, and cloud
storage
ISP: Internet Service Provider

CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
Computer networks help us stay
connected and share information
easily. The 3 main types of networks
are PAN, LAN, & WAN. These networks
have different purposes depending on
their range, size, and usage. Knowing
how they work help us understand
technology around us and make good
use of these networks.
