He was born in 1985 in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa. He came from a modest background
faced with financial struggles as they once lost their home as his father failed to pay a debt and
were forced to live with a relatives in a small backroom. With little hope of being able to attain
further education but even at a young age he showed signs of an entrepreneurial spirit. He also
had a talent for public speaking and by the age of 17 years he was one of the most motivational
public speakers in South Africa. But this want without its setbacks as he was thrust into public
speaking in school as a punishment in school where his first speech titled “What Women Want”
what met with criticism from the audience.
He pursued education at the University of Witwatersrand despite financial constraints where he
studied Management in Advanced Programme and Commerce but due to lack of financial
funding he was forced to drop out during his first year. Determined to succeed he started a
business Global Businesses South Africa a recruitment agency that linked South African
apprentices to job opportunities in England and Australia.
His resilience and ability to turn challenges into opportunities has been a huge contributor to
his success story as despite losing millions of dollars in various business ventures, he always
managed to recover to build a thriving career.
Vusi Thembekwayo is an embodiment of resilience, hard-work and self-discipline and a major
motivation to the youth as he has proven that if you commit to it, it is possible.
