Design Brief & project management
Box with sliding lid
Your Task: Using your design and workshop skills you are to design your own sliding lid
wooden box that you would be happy to use at home. You are tasked with deciding what
your wooden box will hold.
IMPORTANT: you do have some design restrictions. The most significant being that you will only be
given a piece of pine measuring 800 x 90 x 15 mm. The lid can be made from 3mm thick MDF,
Plywood or Acrylic
Designing is a process and by following this booklet we will introduce you to this concept. Follow the
booklet carefully and if you have any questions remember ask your teacher.
What does a sliding lid box look like?
Think about what you could store in your finished product.
Game controller, mobile phone, chargers, deck of cards, pens, pencils and collectables.
These are but a few options.
INVESTIGATION (This is part one you must provide research that will help with
your design and explain to any viewers just how your product has developed.)
1. It is my intent to design a ;

What is investigating? Investigating is researching. When you investigate you are looking for possible
ways to solve a design problem, by considering all factors.
