GREEK/ROMAN MYTHOLOGY
Cloth
In English, the word "cloth" means a fabric or material. This has a Greek word
origin in the story of Clotho, the youngest of the Three Fates, who spun the thread
of life.
Ex. These pieces of cloth are suitable for my outfit.
Music
In the English language, "music" means sounds arranged intentionally to be
beautiful and harmonious. This comes directly from the Muses, Greek goddesses
of the arts and science.
Ex. One of my hobbies is to listen to music.
Ocean
The word "ocean" means a large body of salt water. It comes from the name of
Ôkeanos, the god of the river Oceanus, the source of the Earth's fresh water.
Ex. The Ocean is one of the earth’s sources of water and one of the nature that
must be protected.
tantalize
This alluring word is all about temptation. Tantalize means “to torment with, or as
if with, the sight of something desired but out of reach. Roman mythology word
Tantalus.
Ex. : Just give me a cupcake; don’t tantalize me by eating that right in front of me!
Mentor is the form the ancient Greek goddess Athena takes to counsel the young
Telemachus, son of Odysseus.
Ex. In my senior high, I had a writing mentor who helped me a lot t o write my
research paper.
