Biology Assignment
Topic: The Human Respiratory System
Instructions:
You are required to complete two labeled biological diagrams as part of your study of the
human respiratory system. Please begin during this period!
Part A: Diagram of the Human Respiratory System (10 marks)
Draw and clearly label the major parts of the human respiratory system. Your diagram
should include the following:
- Nasal cavity
- Pharynx
- Larynx
- Trachea
- Bronchi
- Bronchioles
- Lungs
- Diaphragm
- Ribs
- Intercostal muscles
(Also indicate the thorax and abdomen)
Tips:
Use a sharp pencil and label neatly.
Indicate the direction of air flow using arrows
Use colour if possible to differentiate structures
Part B: Cross Section of an Alveolus (10 marks)
Draw a magnified cross section of a single alveolus surrounded by capillaries. Your
diagram should include:
- Alveolar wall (epithelium)
- Capillary network
- Red blood cells
- Oxygen (O₂) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) movement (shown with arrows)
- Thin membrane for gas exchange
Tips:
Show the close contact between alveoli and capillaries.
Label the direction of oxygen entering the blood and carbon dioxide leaving the
blood.
Presentation Requirements:
Use your biology exercise book.
Label all diagrams clearly and horizontally.
Submit on or before the due date.
Assessment Rubric:
