Temperature Measurements
In this laboratory, two experiments were
conducted using various types of temperature
measuring equipment. The first experiment
involved the temperature measurement of a water
bath at different temperatures using a
thermometer, a resistance temperature sensor, a
thermistor, and a thermocouple. Each device was
initially used to find the temperature of an ice bath,
used as an ice reference temperature. They were
then placed in the water bath and used to measure
the water temperature at several temperature set
points which were 25, 35, 45, and 55 degrees
Celsius. The second experiment involved using a
DHT11 sensor to measure the temperature and
humidity of the room.
Introduction
Many devices can be used to measure
temperature, each having its own unique way of
doing so. These span from simple mercury
thermometers to complex sensors that use a
change in resistance to find a temperature. It is
important to use the right instrument for a given
context to allow for either extreme accuracy or
quick temperature reference.
In this laboratory, several different
temperature measuring devices were used to
measure the temperature of an ice bath and a
heated water bath, as well as find the temperature
and humidity of the room. These included a glass
mercury thermometer, a resistance temperature
sensor (RTD), a thermocouple, a thermistor, and
a DHT11 sensor. Each device performs the
measurement in a different way and gives a
different type of output.
