Materials:
You will need scissors, stitch marker, poly-fill stuffing, tapestry
needle, Various sizes of safety eyes, fabric/hot glue, embroidery floss
to stitch on the face, 3.00 mm crochet hook, sewing pins, and worsted
weight yarn.
Let’s Talk Yarn!
You will need 150 yards of worsted weight yarn to create one gremlin.
I used Gazzal Rock n Roll Yarn and Red Heart Super Saver Retro
Stripe. Use any color or brand of worsted weight yarn you would like
Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Sl st: slip stitch
Sc: single crochet
Sc inc: single crochet increase
Sc dec: single crochet decrease
Hdc: half double crochet
Blo: back loops only
Notes:
This would be considered an intermediate pattern. Sewing skills and
patience are required! This pattern is written in US crochet
terminology. Most of this pattern is worked in continuous rounds so
you will need to use a stitch marker. This is a lengthy pattern so I
will be including a notes section before each new task. Yarn and hook
information will also be included before each new task. Happy
hooking!
Gauge:
Using 3.00 mm hook! 9 sts x 9 rows = 2 inches
Final measurements:
Your finished gremlin will be 7 inches head to toe and 5 inches
across.
Other Important Information:
When making amigurumi I suggest using the invisible
increase/decrease method. There are a ton of YouTube tutorials on
this but basically you increase/decrease as you normally would but in
the front loops only. This ensures that there won’t be any bumps or
gaps in your finished amigurumi project! Please note that the rest of
your project will be worked through both loops! You will only be
working in the front loops when you increase/decrease!
If you want to make a “fuzzy” gremlin you can use a pet brush to fuzz
up each piece before you assemble. If you choose to do this make sure
you fuzz it up before you add safety eyes and stitch on the face.
Now on to the crochet pattern!

Place your safety eyes between Round 13 and 14. Place your safety
eyes 8 stitches apart. If you are using multiple safety eyes or varying
sizes use, you best judgement on where to place them. Make sure to
leave enough space to stitch on your mouth. See image below!
Now use your embroidery floss and tapestry needle to stitch on your
nose and mouth. The possibilities are endless. Just take your time! I
did a big wide smile on one of my gremlins and a small set of fangs on
the other. See image below!
Use your tapestry needle to sew your ears onto the head. Take your
time so that it turns our as desired. I like to use sewing pins to hold
everything in place while I sew. Just make sure to remove sewing
pins when you’re done.
Add any other embellishments to the head now. I added some cone
spikes to one of my gremlins and a bunch of safety eyes to the other!
Now it’s time to finish the head!

Assembly:
Notes:
Take your time when sewing so that your project turns out as
desired. It can be tempting to rush through these final steps, but I
promise you sewing is as equally important as crocheting when it
comes to amigurumi! Use sewing pins and take frequent breaks if
needed. If you find yourself getting tired or frustrated while
assembling your amigurumi put it down and come back to it later.
The more you sew amigurumi together the better you will get at it!
Sew your body securely onto the head. Take your time and use
sewing pins if needed. Make sure your remove sewing pins when you
are done sewing. Break yarn and weave in any ends you may have!
See image below!
Now it is time to sew the feet onto the body! AGAIN, take your time!
Make your sewing count! I recommend using sewing pins to hold your
feet in place as you sew. Place the feet slightly angled. 3 sts apart at
the closest point and about 5 sts apart at the farthest. Pin your feet
between 4th and 10th row of the body. Sew securely into place. Make
sure your pins have been removed. Break yarn and weave in your
ends. See image below!
Sew your arms securely into place. Again, take your time! Sew your
arms on between row 11-13 of the body! Sew them on slightly adjacent
to your body. Make sure you remove all sewing pins! Break yarn and
weave in your ends. See image below!
All that is left to do is attach your wings. Wings are of course an
optional accessory! I used a combo of hot glue and sewing to attach my
wings. Take time to place your wings carefully! Use sewing pins to
help you with placement. You do not want them to be lopsided! You
could also use fabric glue and sewing to attach. It is totally up to you!
Make sure you take our sewing pins when you are finished sewing!
Your gremlin is complete!
Important tips!
Always exercise adult supervision when using safety eyes on a project.
You can use felt or embroidered eyes! Because of the delicate wings
and safety eyes I suggest spot cleaning your finished amigurumi!
