INTRODUCTION
Air conditioning systems are essential to ensuring a conducive learning and working
environment across academic institutions. At the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT),
multiple departments rely on air conditioners to maintain optimal classroom, lab, and office
conditions. However, many units are outdated, malfunctioning, or improperly maintained,
resulting in discomfort, decreased productivity, and higher energy consumption.
To address this, VOLTWISE Company LTD proposes a comprehensive maintenance and
installation project. This project aims to restore, upgrade, and expand the air conditioning
infrastructure across DIT while offering engineering students hands-on learning opportunities.

CURRENT SITUATION
Several challenges currently hinder the effectiveness of DIT’s air conditioning infrastructure:
1. Outdated Equipment – Many units are beyond their service lifespan and operate inefficiently.
2. Inconsistent Maintenance – Irregular servicing causes frequent breakdowns and reduces
efficiency.
3. Limited Coverage – Some classrooms and labs lack proper air conditioning altogether.
4. Energy Waste – Lack of energy-efficient systems leads to high electricity costs.
5. Lack of Technical Oversight – No dedicated team is available for ongoing maintenance and
repairs.

METHODOLOGY
To ensure successful delivery, the project will be implemented through structured stages
involving site survey, equipment procurement, installation, servicing, and evaluation. The
methodology is designed to optimize the performance and longevity of all installed and
maintained AC systems.
1. Site Survey and Needs Assessment
- Evaluate existing AC systems at DIT for functionality and coverage
- Identify buildings, labs, and offices requiring new installations
- Collect user feedback from students and staff
2. Procurement of Equipment and Materials
- Source energy-efficient air conditioning units and eco-friendly refrigerants
- Procure spare parts and service kits for repairs and scheduled maintenance
3. Installation and Repair Works
- Replace broken and outdated systems
- Install new ACs in identified high-priority locations
- Conduct post-installation performance testing
4. Scheduled Maintenance
- Establish weekly, monthly, and quarterly maintenance cycles
- Conduct cleaning, refrigerant checks, and calibration
