The Lost Puppy
Emma was walking home from school when she heard a soft whimpering sound. She
looked around and saw a small, brown puppy sitting near a tree. The puppy looked
scared and hungry. Emma knelt down and gently patted its head.
“Where is your owner?” she asked. The puppy wagged its tail but didn’t move. Emma
looked around but saw no one.
She decided to take the puppy home. When she got there, she gave it some water
and a little food. The puppy ate happily. Emma’s mother saw the puppy and smiled.
“We need to find its owner,” she said.
Emma made a poster with a picture of the puppy and put it on trees around the
neighborhood. The next day, a boy named Jake knocked on their door. “That’s my

Dog Saves Young Child
Three-year-old Jamie Wilson was playing in the grass in Willow Park when suddenly,
out of nowhere, a dog grabbed him by his shirt and started to pull him away. Boys
playing football nearby said that they heard wild barking, and saw a dog rushing
towards the young child. Jamie’s mother, as well as the boys, thought that the dog
was going to attack the child and ran towards him. When they get closer, they saw the
dog struggling with something in the grass. It was a coral snake, which can be very
harmful, or even fatal, to a young child.
The dog, a seven-year-old mixed-breed named Pita, had seen the snake getting
dangerously close to the child. First she moved the boy away from the snake. Then
she attacked it. The snake fought back and bit her just above the eye. By that time,
people had gathered around, and they caught the snake.
Ms. Isaac, Pita’s owner, said that she knew how smart her dog was, but was still
surprised to see her amazing reaction. “ I’m so proud of her, and I’m very thankful that
the little boy is safe,” she said.
Ms. Isaac told us that Pita’s snake bite is healing very nicely. In two weeks, Pita will
be receiving the National Hero Dog Award.
