Re: Rome Disaster Relief Project
This is an overview of 3 separate mission profiles that can be designed by our company.
Mission Profile I: Multi-Mission, Heavy-lift transport Helicopter
Design Overview: The purpose of this design will be to aid in search and rescue for missing
persons by providing necessary equipment (*note this is not outfitted to accommodate severe
injuries but rather provide the tools necessary to discover and retrieve individuals who may be
lodged underneath the rubble of collapsed buildings) and to offload necessary cargo for basic
medical care and provisions. This is a long range cargo aircraft outfitted with external fuel tanks
to accommodate air-to-air refueling and a high mounted wing to increase downward visibility.
Optional* Payload Type can also be outfitted with Rescue Basket to aid in wildfires

Mission Profile II: SAR (Search & Rescue) Design
Design Overview: The purpose of this design will be to aid in the retrieval of and rescue of
missing persons by providing first response medical care and transport to the nearest medical
facility outside evac zone. This is a long range aircraft outfitted with external fuel tanks to
accommodate air-to-air refueling and a high mounted wing with an anhedral angle for stability
(reduces risk of complications to patients during transport) and to increase downward visibility
when conducting thermal imaging scans and an underwing mounted engine.

Mission Profile III Single Engine Air Tanker Design Overview:
The purpose of this design will be to aid in relief for fire-fighting disasters. The design will be a SEAT or
Single Engine Air Tanker design that can accommodate for up to 800 gallons of fire retardant. This
design is intended to carry the least amount of items possible so as to increase the quantity of fire
retardant carried through each trip.

Below I have listed the AHP Decision Making Matrix and these were the results. We can
observe that maximizing payload and Air-To-Air refueling were rated respectively at 38% and
26%. From this we can gather that the most suitable aircraft in accordance with the AHP chart
will be Mission Profile I

Mission Profile III Single Engine Air Tanker Design Overview:

Expected Annual LR (Lease Rate):
According to the information given Rome's most profitable natural disasters is as follows:
subscript r standing for range-type
Rs-Short Range
Rl-Long Range
Calculations:
Wildfire Rs - (200,000 × 2) ≈ 400,000
Wildfire Rl - (800,000)(45) ≈ 36,000,000
Tornado Rs - (480,000)(15) ≈ 7,200,000
Tornado Rl - (680,000)(25) ≈ 17,000,000
Earthquake Rs - (600,000)(8) ≈ 4,800,000
Earthquake Rl - (1,400,000)(10) ≈ 14,000,000
Note: It is worth mentioning this is gross profit meaning that expenses such as fuel, supplies and maintenance
have not yet been accounted for.
The cylindrical shape is indicative of the general radius of the fuselage. The transparent rectangular shape
was to allow the viewer to observe the size of the cargo tank that will be carrying the fire retardant and the
two passenger seats for the pilot and co-pilot.
Fuselage Design Parameters and Considerations:
Outside of the decision making matrix these are additional factors that should be considered
when designing the fuselage.
The fuselage must be designed such that it:
● can accommodate passengers and crew (in comfort)
● meets safety specifications for their safe evacuation
● provides sufficient volume for cargo storage
● allows the pilots to have a sufficient awareness of their surroundings
● allows rapid turnaround time
