Reflection 1
In this artifact the researcher has gained knew knowledge, this piece made the researcher feel a sense of
empowerment, yet discriminated because the poem talks about how persons in society tell people with
kinky curly hair to “fix your hair” or to “whiten” it. The researcher understands that the poem seems to
highlight the value of embracing one's identity, defying societal influences, and finding strength in
cultural history. It asks the readers to consider their own ties to identity, appearance, and societal
expectations. Yes, the researchers’ thinking has changed since she looked at hair differently but in a good
way.
In artifact 2, the researcher has gained knew knowledge, this piece highlighted some main practices to
care and maintain hair, which the researcher did not know about and it made the researcher aware. This
piece made the researcher understand how to properly take care of hair. Yes the researchers thinking has
changed since she would’ve gained new knowledge about how to properly maintain hair and she would
apply the knowledge gained when she is caring for her hair.
In artifact 3, the researcher has gained knew knowledge, the poster lists seven common mistakes that
persons make which make the researcher very concerned since the mistakes are common. Before looking
at this artifact, the researcher would’ve not been aware that these every day activities that people perform
when dealing with their hair causes hair loss and the researcher understands why it happens. Yes the
researchers thinking has changed since she would not have been aware that these simple actions causes
hair loss such as washing your hair with hot water, high tension hair styles e.t.c.
8.
Reflection 2
In the poem, vivid imagery was used, such as “I let my curtain of curls blanket us from the world,” adds a
visual dimension, allowing readers to connect emotionally with the poet’s experience.
In this article Standard English was used. It was written in an informative and instructional tone,
providing tips on hair care and addressing common issues as it relates to hair care. The use of language is
aimed at conveying practical advice to the reader, explaining do’s and don’ts of hair care, and
emphasizing the importance of specific practices for maintaining healthy hair.
In this poster, formal language was used. It was used to get over the point to the viewer’s smoothly
without them getting confused.
9.
Reflection 3
With the completion of this SBA, I have gained knew knowledge in several ways. These selfimprovements include collaborative skills, writing skills and research skills.
My SBA has helped me to better work with other people since we had to do a lot of group activities, and I
hated doing group work because often times there would be lack in communication with group members,
but because of this SBA I have learnt that group work is very crucial. My writing skills improved since
there was a lot of information being researched and it had to be all merged together and before I use to
find it very hard to merge information together. My research skills have improved since I had to do deep
searches to get proper information.
In conclusion this SBA process has shown the researcher that she is very competent.
