White Light and Coloured
Filters Investigation
You will need:
• a source of light e.g. a torch or a ray box
• a selection of coloured filters - red, orange, yellow, green and blue
• white paper or card or a white wall
Fold your paper or card in half so that it can stand up and make a screen for your light
to shine on. You could shine the light onto a white wall instead.
Shine your light onto the paper. What do you notice about the colour of light?
Choose a coloured filter to place in front
of your light.
What do you predict will happen to the
light? Record your prediction in the table
below.
Now place the coloured filter in front of
the light. What happens to the light?
Record your findings.
Repeat this for the other coloured filters
you have.
