FACTS ABOUT THE TAFAWA BALEWA
SQUARE
• It is an old site found in Lagos Island, Lagos state.
• It was formerly known as Race Course and was named
after the first and only Prime Minister of Nigeria (Tafawa
Balewa 1912-1966).
• It was built in 1972 which was used for the celebration of
Nigeria’s independence.
• The TBS houses the 26-storey building which once stood
as the tallest building in Nigeria. There are four gigantic
sculptures of horses and seven eagles.

SQUARE
• It has a capacity of about 50,000 people at one gathering.
• More so, the 26-storey independence house at the square
was constructed in 1963 to hold some government
offices.
FACTS ABOUT THE MARY SLESSOR’S
HOUSE, CALABAR
• Mary Mitchell Slessor was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on
2 December 1848 and died on January 13, 1915 in Use
Ikot Oku, in present day Akwa-Ibom.
• In 1889, a missionary carpenter, Mr. Owens, was
commissioned to build a better house for the missionary
worker. It was built to hold more people than Mary Slessor
alone.
FACTS ABOUT THE MARY SLESSOR’S
HOUSE, CALABAR
• She was a missionary who stopped the killing of twins and
other human sacrifices.
• Mary Slessor building has been put to use by the
government of Cross Rivers state as guest house for
other missionaries, primary health care and a tourist site
of major significance.
FACTS ABOUT NGWO PINE FOREST
• The Ngwo pine forest is located on the outskirts of Enugu
state of Nigeria.
• It is a natural sight of beauty of pine trees on endless
display.
• It has a cave of limestone rock that holds a small waterfall
with a shallow pool beneath.
• The pine forest has been in its present location for as long
as the Ngwo community existed.
