Effects of Environmental Problems
Audience-General readers
Purpose- To encourage people to sustain our environment.
Have you ever felt exhausted and unable to sleep at night when the air conditioner is not
working? Sometimes, you feel like the weather is getting hotter day by day. It means that we are
receiving what we give. While humans were trying to be more modern, we ignored the
environment. Then, environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution, land pollution,
global warming and climate change have negative impacts on our world.
One of the most direct effects of environmental problems is on human health. Every year
more people die from unsafe water rather than from all forms of violence, including war.
According to UN, about 2.2 billion people around the world lack access to safe drinking water. Air
pollution emitted from vehicles, industries etc. can cause respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
Around the world, nine out of 10 people breathe unhealthy air. Air pollution is the biggest
environmental risk for early death, responsible for more than 6 million premature deaths each
year from heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and respiratory diseases. That is why, we need to care
our environment to get fresh air and clean water for our health.
Additionally, the second common effect is economic loss. Environmental problems such as
rising sea levels, hurricanes etc., can destroy houses, buildings and business. We need to take a
long time and a lot of money to restart our business. According to the new research, the global
economy could lose 10% of its total economic value by 2050 due to climate change. There is no
doubt that our world’s economy depends on climate change which is one of the sustainable
development goals. In order to develop our economy, we should take care of our environment
and support eco-friendliness.
Last but not least, another important effect is impacts on future generations. Future
generations will likely face a hotter planet due to the ongoing accumulation of greenhouse gases.
According to the “Save the Children” organization, 90% of diseases resulting from the climate
crisis are likely to affect children under the age of five. Moreover, the education of around 38
million children is disrupted each year by the climate crisis. If there is no education development,
there is no future for any generations. We should cultivate the seeds of good future for next
generations. Thus, we need to reduce the impacts of environmental problems.
To summarize, whose duty is it to sustain our world to be a better place without environmental
problems? If not us, then who? So, we need to pay attention to our environmental changes to our
lives and try to figure things out. It’s our duty to save the beauty of our environment. I believe
that we can do it together and move forward to a colorful world.
