Sample Collection Checklist
1. -80# stream sediment from sediment traps,

~200 gram sample drained in plastic clip bag,
From suitable traps and below surface (20cms),
Minimum 10m upstream from junction with main river,
Check pan con for any alluival Au, Sn or other heavy minerals,
For dry creek can take sediment and wash in main river,
Photo sample point and GPS waypoint.
2. Rock float collection,

Walk upstream 50 – 100m if possible to check the float types
and record (take many clear photos) and sample type rocks –
especially is have altered float.
3. Rock outcrop mapping,

Describe and photo outcrop / bedrock to stream,
Collect hand specimen for sample and/or collection.
4. Stream description,

Width of stream dry and flowing width,
Strong or weak flow,
Clear or muddy water (if have activity above).

Use sample location codes and label each sample as follows;
a) BRSS001 – stream sediment and sequential,
b) BRRF001 – rock float and sequential,
c) BRRC001 – rock chip / channel and sequential with RF.
Label photos of GPS / stream sample site according to BRSS code,
Note;
a) Stream width dry (m),
b) Stream width (with water) (m) and condition, clean, cloudy, dirty,
c) Flowrate; Dry, Low, Medium, High,
d) Bedrock and outcrop nearby (make description of rock type and if
contain alteration),
e) Pan concentrate check – note minerals especially Au, Cassiterite
(black heavy minerals), zircon, monazite, ilmenite etc,
Collect -80# 1 sample per side creek, and every 500m if main river and
no side creek,
Collect rock float as sample and/or handspecimen,
Collect rock outcrop as sample and/or handspecimen,
Take many photos of interesting geology,
Note access to the sample site as village walk / motorbike track, forest
cutting, 4WD track etc and if easy, moderate, difficult access.
