Assignment Weighting (15%) Due Date: 8.00pm - Sunday 18th May, 2025 operating system 1 CS311 Assignment 2 Section A: Virtualization Software Part 1: Using Virtualization technology (Oracle VirtualBox), demonstrate the following tasks: a. Configure a virtual machine (VM01) to deploy Android OS with Internet access. You can select 32-bit/64-bit operating systems. Apply appropriate resources (ram, cpu, video graphics, network settings). b. Explore the Device Care feature on the virtual Android device, demonstrating battery, storage, memory, and performance management, and security settings. c. Simulate downloading an app such as Candy Crush and show the impact on performance (memory and cpu usage) and the necessary strategies to optimize overall user experience. Part 2: Using Virtualization technology (Oracle VirtualBox), demonstrate the following tasks: a. Install Windows Server 2022 (Desktop Experience) on a virtual machine labelled VM02. Use host only or internal network adapter. b. During setup, select custom & partition 256gb into 128gb each. Note: this may create additional partitions as reserved. Use administrator password: SecureIT!! c. Configure the domain name as “Sxxxxxxx.com”. (Use the group Leaders ID). d. Assign a Class C Network Address - For instance: e. f. g. h. i. IP Address: 192.168.X.X Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.X.X Preferred DNS: 192.168.X.X Extend the disk partition to increase an additional 64GB. Configure virtual memory to use 2GB for page caching. Provision the OS to implement a storage pool with RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) on the server. Choose the appropriate RAID level (e.g., RAID 1 for mirroring or RAID 5 for striping with parity) and explain the benefits of your choice for data redundancy and performance. Secure the disk using BitLocker drive encryption. Ensure to save the recovery keys and store them safely. Demonstrate the process of unlocking the encrypted drive with the recovery key. Part 3: Using Virtualization technology (Oracle VirtualBox), demonstrate the following tasks: a. Install a Client OS (Windows 10/11) labelled VM03 and join the Client to the Server created in Part 2 above. b. Login with appropriate credentials. c. Map the storage pool to the client OS so that clients can securely save the data. d. Test the RAID setup by simulating disk failure and verifying data integrity and recovery. e. Evaluate the use of RAID, Storage Pools, BitLocker, Virtual Memory(Paging) and disk partitioning.
