Initial Communication Self-Assessment
My Self-Assessment
My strengths as a communicator based on the competence model we reviewed this
week would be showcased in my ability to read the room. I think some areas I need to work on
would be empathizing with what someone is saying or going through. Another area that would
need improvement could be understanding the non-verbal cues someone provides with what
they are saying. Last, I could work on the communication I output to others. Through being more
clear and concise. I think for myself some areas come more naturally than others. What leads
me to believe I need improvement in the chosen areas is by gauging what I excel at more than
other forms of communication.
This is a personal opinion and observation though, someone else may recommend I
work on completely different areas. To the outside observer I may come across differently than I
interpret on my own. Throughout the semester I will use some of the practices and being aware
to try to improve on each form of communication.
