What happened?
In last drama class, we learned about Textual
Analysis, but for this class, we are going to learn
about Set Design and Construction.
Who was involved?
In this drama class, we could not meet with miss to discuss and discover
this new topic. It was called “Set Design and Construction”. Miss sent
the topic on Google classroom and we had to write out the notes which
were very interesting and informative.
What is most important / interesting / relevant / useful aspect of the
event, idea or situation?
So you may ask, “What is Set Design and Construction”? Well, I learnt that Set Design is the creation of
the physical space in which the action of a performed event takes place and Set Construction, or
stagecraft, basically refers to the building of the set. Rough drawings and ideas from the production team
are taken and turned into realistic builds that include scenery, draperies, furniture, and props. Set designers
often work with directors, producers, costume designers and other crew members. They would often use a
model box. This would help give them a clear picture of what the real set should look like.
The most important thing to remember when doing Set Designing is that there are several aspects to
consider, including:
• Colour
• Condition
• Practicalities
• Scale
• Staging Configuration
• Texture
• Transition
How can it be explained?
The different aspects of designing a set is that it is essential for making
the set possible for any performance or acts for movie or shows and it
will help give the time, day and location of the scenes itself.
In the future, if I am watching plays or movies/shows, it will help me
understand what I am looking at and what is appearing in the scenes.
