Narrative Essay
It was the final month of my grade 10 school year, and exams are right around the corner. I
have not even started to study and review yet. I enter school in my locker. It was history class,
so I grabbed my books and notes, got ready and prepared for class. I enter the class and sit
next to my friend Angelo.
"Morning, Nic"
"Hey, Angelo. How was your breakfast?"
"It was whatever, not bad but not good either. Anyways, you'd hear what's on the test? Some
people say that basically everything content we've learnt throughout grade 10 will be on that
exam"
"Damn, well I'm failing 10th grade" I laughed nervously
"Good luck then"
"Thanks, I'll need it" I went straight to studying in hopes that I can just pass this exam.
It was lunchtime, and right after is the exam. I was so anxious and on edge.
"What am I gonna do now? I'm gonna fail grade 10. NONONO, I have to stay focused. I just
need to follow the study guide and things will be all fine" I tell myself. I then see my friend Leo
walking over towards me.
"Hey, Leo. How's your studying?"
"Oh, ummmmmm. it's fine. I'm not having too much trouble studying, you?"
"Bro, you wouldn't believe it. I'm gonna fail 10th grade. I actually haven't started studying 'till
today"
"Hey man, it's fine. You just need to calm down and get the study sheet memorized. That's all
there is to it"
"Hey, thanks bro. I can always count on you to help me" Leo was correct. I need to chillax and
get my head straight, focusing on one objective. PASSING THE EXAM. I spent the last few
minutes of lunchtime reviewing and studying while reminding myself to remain calm. I was
determined to pass the exam.
Lunch is over and everyone is scrambling back to class while looking at their notes to take their
final exam. Meanwhile, I was slowly walking back not noticing the others. I reach the exam room
and take a seat next to Angelo. Everybody in the room was nervous, but I was fueled with
determination to pass.
“Good luck my friend. It was nice knowing” Angelo said.
“Thanks, bro. You too!” The invigilator then comes into the room with the exam in hand.
“Attention! The exam starts in 2 minutes. You will receive the rest of the school day to finish
your multiple-choice exam. Good luck to you all” he said
The exam time starts….NOW!” The moment I've been waiting for has come. I remind myself:
“I only need a 65% to pass” I look at the exam and realize: this is perfect. Basically, everything
on the paper is the topics I reviewed the whole day. The more questions I complete, the less
pressure I feel. I was beginning to calm down, though I didn't let my guard down.
“TEN MINUTES LEFT!” The invigilator said. I was on the last page but I could see other
students still struggling with the exam.
“Only ten minutes left! Oh no,” Angelo said. With no hesitation, I completed the last question. I
spring up from my chair to give my paper to the invigilator. I walk back to my desk feeling as if I
accomplished the most important thing in my life so far.
A few days have gone by and everybody was so anxious and scared of the results.
“How’d you think you did, Nicky?” Anglo asked
“I think….. I think we shall see. They said the results will be back after we finish lunch and go
back to class. I can’t wait to see how I did”
Lunch was over and we were told to go back to class. The results were out on the projector. I
quickly scan for my name on the board.
“LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! A
96%!!!!!” I screamed while jumping up and down. I was thrilled. Not only did I pass, but I did so
with flying colors. On that day, I learnt a valuable lesson. If I try my hardest on anything I put my
mind to, I will be able to do it.
