D espite the global economic crisis, First Community Cooperative ((FICCO) managed to cross another milestone as it celebrated iits 67th Founding Anniversary on July 8, 2021. This is indeed a remarkable year considering that majority experienced economic collapse, but FICCO never lose-heart, together with its devoted employees, officers, volunteers, and members. FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 2021 The activity started with a virtual Thanksgiving mass via zoom and live on FICCO’s official Facebook page. The mass started at 7:00 in the morning and was officiated by Rev. Fr. Sanchito Ricarde, SSJV. There will be a Nature Walk and Tree planting which will commence once the quarantine classification in Cagayan de Oro City will be lifted. The activity will be at the watershed area of Binigwayan creek in Baikingon, Cagayan de Oro City. Government mandated protocols will be imposed as we progress in this activity. Over the years, FICCO has always been committed in outreaching to non-FICCO members especially in the far-flung areas. A manifestation to this is the presence of ninety-nine (99) FICCO offices in Luzon, Visayas, and in Mindanao. FICCO’s plans for 2021 includes: Opening of additional Business Centers in Agusan del Norte, Camiguin Province, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga, and in Lanao del Sur; some of the existing Business Centers will be converted to branch such as Medina in Misamis Oriental, Wao in Bukidnon, and San Jose in Dinagat Island. FICCO also plans to acquire lots where FICCO building will be constructed. FICCO’s partnership with NCCC, Mindanao’s leading consumer goods retailer and wholesaler, and the Misamis Oriental Provincial Agriculture Office is also in line for this year. Tantamount to the number of years and the growing number of members is the increase in need. To address some issues especially in the new normal, FICCO partnered with Traxion which handles Digicoop, a digital platform that will revolutionize the way the cooperative will serve its members. With this partnership, online Pre-Membership Seminar is made possible and convenient. This is very timely and relevant especially in this new normal. It also partnered with the Social Security System (SSS) which provided the members convenience in paying their monthly contribution, loans, and even application for SSS number, update their SSS membership status, application for SSS funeral claims, and application for SSS loan. It has been a long year, and the success of FICCO emanate from the never ending support of its employees, officers, volunteers, and the members. God bless FICCO and the General Membership. www.ficco.org 1 FICCO FICCO FICCO PARTNERS WITH TRAXION COOPERATIVE Digitalization at the Tip of our Fingers T he year 2021 is another successful year for First Community Cooperative (FICCO) which celebrated its 67th Founding Anniversary on July 8, 2021, despite all the odds and amidst our battle against this global pandemic. Its creation was a natural progression after the idea FICCO Development Corporation (FDC) DORMITEL T he Mindanao Cooperatives Water Service Federation, which was registered in 2018, but started actual operation only in February 2020, is making its presence felt in such areas as Cotabato City, Bislig City and Libona Bukidnon. The bulk water supply project for the Metro Cotabato Water District, in Cotabato City, is expected to be operational by October 2021. The Water treatment plant and the primary pipe is expected to be completed by early September of this year. This project is a joint venture between MCWS and Hanabana Equipment and Construction Corporation, with the former investing a total of ₱ 60 million. The project in Bislig City is a joint venture with Kyogojo Engineering Service Cooperative for a level 3 water system. A level 3 system covers developing the water source, setting up a water treatment plant, and installation of primary and distribution pipes to the households. Phase 1 of the project will service 4,000 households in Poblacion of Bislig City and adjacent barangays. MCWS appropriated ₱ 80 million in this ongoing project. As of July 16, 2021, a total of 671 households already have their water connections. Phase 2 of the project will supply water to Mangagoy, the biggest barangay of Bislig City with more than 8,000 households. Development work is expected to start in August 2021 and is scheduled to be completed by July 2022. FICCO2 www.ficco.org The project in Libona, Bukidnon will service not only the barangays of Kiliog, Kinawe and Gango, all of Libona, but also the residents of Indahag, some in Macasandig, Camaman-an and Upper Gusa, all of Cagayan de Oro. MCWS has budgeted ₱ 186 million for this project that is expected to serve around 14,300 households. Initial delivery of water will commence by October of this year. MCWS, in its first joint venture engagement with Kyogojo, has also invested a total of ₱ 67 million to upgrade the existing water facilities of the latter in Lumbia, Mambuaya, Taguanao and Baikingon, all of Cagayan de Oro. Because of these upgrades, an additional 839 households are now connected to the water system that already includes some of the residents of Macasandig and Bayanga, also of Cagayan de Oro. Despite it being new, MCWS has already declared dividends, albeit small percentage, to its member coops during the last three years, including the first two, 2018 and 2019, during which it actually has no actual water operation. That speaks of the prudence exercised by the people running MCWS. MCWS is comprised by 13 cooperatives, 12 of which are based in Cagayan de Oro and one in Davao City, and two corporations. FICCO owns 95% of the common stocks of this Federation. I iSTAR Program Kick-off – Training Induction Program (TIP) n current times when information and communications technology play aa major role in development programs, a digital version of STAR is vviewed as a strategic means to sustain its gains. Amidst technological changes, a digital format can increase accessibility and broaden the reach of the program to a wider audience who needs to improve their basic entrepreneurial management skills. Member’s Success Story My name is Solitario Yangco Sr., 51 years old and a proud member of FICCO Lapulapu Branch. I’m currently residing at Sentro Ibabao Cordova, Cebu and blessed with five (5) children. I became a member of FICCO on November 28, 2011. While managing my Solitario hewing wrought stones finances, I also devote my time as an active member of FICCO. I have been a member of the Election Committee for a year, a Credit Committee Chairman for seven years, and currently an active 8-year Education Committee Volunteer of FICCO. I started with small amount of deposit in my account since my source of income is hewing wrought stones that wages Php 1,000 to 1,200 pesos only per week. Given this salary range, I also did some construction works to cope-up with our financial needs. Year 2014, I availed a FICCO Loan to start a small business as a hog raiser and apartments-for-rent built in light materials. I did my best to manage my FICCO account so I can avail a bigger amount of loan for my future business plan that I would also like to pass on to my children. My prayers and diligence did not falter for I was able to loan a capital for my dream business and even started a small company. Our company produces garment such as medical equipments, specializing in antiradiation equipments for Doctor’s usage in operating room. By God’s grace and family’s full support, our business had run smoothly, became successful and enabled us to engage in exportation. FICCO has always been our financing partner in rolling our capital and sustaining our business needs. It is not only I that FICCO had helped, it is my whole family. Solitario’s Business (present) Our successful business has allowed us to purchase our own assets and properties. I’m proud to say that my children now have their own properties and financially stable. I will be forever grateful to FICCO that became an instrument in making our lives better. By this testimony, I’m not ashamed to share to all FICCO members in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, to all my children and generations by generations how FICCO can change lives.
