Classroom Attendance
Ms. Secretary, do we have any absentees
for today?
(Answer may vary)
a. Setting of Standards
Before we formally begin, let’s go over
some classroom rules using the acronym
ENGLISH to ensure a smooth and
productive discussion.
CLASSROOM RULES
E – Engage actively
N – Nurture respect
G – Give your best
L – Listen attentively
I – Initiate kindness
S – Speak politely
H – Help create a safe space
1. Review
Before we proceed to our new topic, let’s
have first a quick review of our past lesson.
What was our topic from our last
discussion?
About facts and opinion, ma’am!
 What is the difference between a fact
and an opinion?
A fact is true and can be proven. An opinion
is what someone thinks or feels.
So we can know what is true and what is
just someone’s idea.
 Why is it important to know whether a
statement is a fact or an opinion?
Fact: The sun rises in the east. Opinion:
Summer is the best season.
 Can you give one example of a fact and
one example of an opinion?
2. New Lesson
b. Motivation
Class, we’ll play a quick game called
Similar or Opposite!
Are you all ready?
Yes, Ma’am!
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
2
I will flash a pair of words on the TV screen.
Your job is to tell me if the words are
similar in meaning or opposite in meaning.
If the words are similar, raise your hand.
If the words are opposite, cross your arms.
You need to answer quickly before I reveal
the correct answer.
(students will participate in the game!)
Ready? Let’s begin!
· Big : Large – ✅Similar
· Happy : Sad – ❌Opposite
· Fast : Quick – ✅Similar
· Hot : Cold – ❌Opposite
· Angry : Mad – ✅ Similar
c. Presentation
At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
1. define analogy and its categories;
2. display appreciation of analyzing
the relationship of words in real life
situations; and
3. construct at least five analogy pairs
based on the specific type of
analogy assigned to their group.
(Students will read the objectives)
B. Developmental Activities
1. Activity
Alright, class! Today, we are going to play a
fun game called Picture Match: Find the
Connection!
Game Mechanics:

Divide the class into 3 groups.

Each group gets 3 pictures, 3 word
cards, and an answer sheet.

Match each picture to the correct word.

You have 1 minute to finish.
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
3

After time’s up, each group will choose
one representative to explain the
connection.
"Yes, Ma’am!"
Are you now ready?
"Great! Let’s begin!"
Group 1
Writing, Mistake, Paper
(students will actively participate)
Group 2
Day, Night, Time
Group 3
Pet, Food, Tool
2. Analysis
What have you noticed about the first
picture and the word you matched with
it? How about the second and third
pairs?
Why did you choose to match that word
with that picture? What made you think
they are connected?
(answers may vary)
What happens when two things are
related like that? What role does each
one play in the pair?
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
4
Based on our activity, what do you think
our lesson is about today?
Okay, our topic for today is about…
(students will read the text)
Finding the Connection: Understanding
Analogies
3. Abstraction
"In our activity, you matched pictures with
words and explained how they were related
— for example:
Dog → Pet
Bone → Food
Leash → Tool
You identified how each item connects to
another — that’s the exact thinking we use
when we study analogies."
Now, let’s define what an analogy is:
An analogy is a comparison
between two things that
shows a relationship.
Students read the text
We write analogies like this:
Dog : Pet :: Bone : Food
The single colon (:) represents the phrase
“is to”, and the double colon (::) represents
the word “as”.
Students read the text
In other words, the relationship between
Dog and Pet is the same as the relationship
between Bone and Food.
So, the connections you made in your
group activity are actually examples of
analogies!
Take a look at this pair of words: night : day
:: happy : sad
Students read the text
Answers may vary
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
5
What do you think is the relationship of the
paired words?
Does the paired words similar or opposite
with each other?
Answers may vary
What do you think is the type of analogy
based on the example?
That type of analogy is called Antonyms.
Answers may vary
Are you all familiar about antonyms?
Okay, great!
Students read the text
If the pairs show an opposite relationship, it
is called antonym analogy.
How about this one? Is this antonym
analogy?
Answers may vary
Light : Dark :: Up : Down
Okay, very good!
Let’s move on to the next type of analogy.
Oserve this example:
Students read the text
husband : spouse :: baby : infant
Answers may vary
Does the pairs show a similar relationship
or have the same meaning?
Okay, what do you think is the name of this
type of analogy? If there is antonym, there
is?
Okay, very good! This type of analogy is
called synonyms.
Students read the text
Answers may vary
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
6
It is when the pairs show a similar
relationship or have the same meaning.
How about this example? Can someone in
the class explain why this is a synonym
analogy?
Big : Large :: Small : Tiny
Okay, very good!
Is there any question or clarification before
we proceed to the next type of analogy? If
there is none, let’s now proceed to the next
type.
Let’s examine this example:
Answers may vary
Students read the text
Answers may vary
cold : shiver ::hot : sweat
What did you notice about this example?
Okay, thank you! This example shows..
(Wait for the students to say their guesses)
Okay, the example shows a cause and
effect type of analogy.
Students’ answer may vary
Can someone in the class explain why the
example is a cause and effect analogy?
Okay, thank you! The analogies contain
words that are the causes, or the sources of
some actions or conditions which are cold
and hot and the other words that are the
effects, or the results or consequences
which are shiver and sweat.
Answers may vary
How about this example?
Rain : Flood :: Fire : Smoke
Answers may vary
Rain is to Flood as Fire is to Smoke.
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
7
Can someone in the class explain why this
is a cause and effect analogy?
Okay, very good!
Students read the text
Now let’s move on to another type of
analogy, part to whole analogy.
Okay, everybody read the definition:
A part to whole analogy is defined as a
comparison between a part and a whole of
one thing and how it is similar to a part and
a whole of another thing.
Here’s the example:
Leaf : Tree :: Page : Book
Answers may vary
Class, let’s look at this pair: Leaf is to Tree
as Page is to Book.
What do you think is the reason why this is
a part to whole analogy?
Very good!
Okay, thank you! A leaf is a part of a tree,
just like a page is a part of a book. These
items are smaller pieces that make up a
larger whole.
Answers may vary
Can someone in the class give their
example of part to whole analogy?
Okay, thank you!
Answers may vary
Now, let’s proceed to the last type of
analogy. But first, I want you all to observe
this example:
Answers may vary
fish : sea :: lion : forest
Okay, what did you notice about the
example?
Answers may vary
Okay, do they tell locations?
Right! Can you identify the location stated in
the example?
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
8
Very good!
Now, what do you think is the name of this
type of analogy?
Okay, it is location analogy!
Answers may vary
Can someone in the class share their own
example of location analogy?
Okay, thank you!
Students read the text
An analogy also is a…
literary device often used in literature and
poetry to make connections between
familiar and unfamiliar things, suggest a
deeper significance, or create imagery in
the reader's mind” ("Analogy Examples In
Literature" 2020). Just like a metaphor and
a simile, it also shows how two unlike things
are similar but is a bit more complicated.
For example:
Students read the text
Metaphor: My laptop is a vault.
Simile: My laptop is like a vault. Analogy:
My laptop is like a vault for a vault keeps
everything a person considers private and
important and my laptop stores all my
secrets and necessary files for my school
works.
In analogy, the similarities of two different
things are not only shown but are also
explained by pointing out their shared
characteristics.
Question and clarification before we
proceed to our next activity?
It seems like you are all now ready for our
next activity!
4. Application
Analogy Race: Construct and Present!
Instructions:

Divide the class into 3 groups.
ENGLISH GRADE 7 LESSON PLAN
9

Assign each group one type of analogy:
Antonym, Synonym, or Part to Whole.

Groups have 2 minutes to construct at
least 5 analogy pairs based on their
assigned type.

After 2 minutes, each group will present
their analogies in 1 minute.

The first group to finish will receive an
additional 3 points.

The second group to finish will receive
an additional 2 points.

The third group to finish will receive an
additional 1 point.
Students will actively participate
5. Generalization
Now, based on what you’ve learned from
our discussion…
1. How can knowing analogies help you
understand things better in real life?
Students’ answer may vary
2. Have you ever compared two things to
explain your feelings or thoughts?
Students’ answer may vary
Students’ answer may vary
3. Why is it helpful to see how things are
alike or different?
C. Culminating Activities
