A.
The purpose of the Nose Landing Gear (NLG) Overhaul Abbreviated CMM (ACMM) is to
provide a recognised conformance document for Part 145 airworthiness release. This
ACMM aligns with that part of the Airbus Overhaul Procedures (OHP) document
(published as Appendix 7 of the A320 and A321 MPD) pertaining to Safran Landing
Systems components. Full application of the ACMM permits compliance to be
demonstrated with the Airbus A318, A319, A320 and A321 Maintenance Review Board
Report (MRBR) for the minimum scheduled maintenance tasks relating to the NLG
quoted in Sections C-32: refer to Tables 3.
B.
This ACMM defines the minimum scheduled maintenance requirements agreed by
Safran Landing Systems, Airbus and the Industry Steering Committee (ISC) that must be
performed to overhaul nose landing gears.

Maintenance Concept Definitions
Landing Gear Overhaul is a restoration process that requires disassembly, cleaning,
check,inspection, repair or replacement of its constituent parts. These parts must then be
reassembled, adjusted and tested as appropriate. A Landing Gear Overhaul ensures
that the Landing Gear is in complete conformity with the certified design standard
including initial manufacturing and/or repair limits. The tasks identified in this document
are in conformance with and satisfy the formal instructions for continued airworthiness
for landing gear overhaul.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES
OVERHAUL OF THE NOSE LANDING GEAR
1.
General
A.
This ACMM:
(1)
Identifies all the tasks required to overhaul (by inspection, testing and repair) a
nose landing gear and its associated equipment.
(2)
Applies to all parts that form the nose landing gear complete. Refer to
INTRODUCTION, Tables 1 and 2 in Para 1.A. for the part numbers and/or Figures
1 to 20 for the Family Trees of the applicable CMMs.
(3)
Tells you to refer to the Airbus Airworthiness Limitations section, which identifies
mandatory life limitations.
(4)
Tells you how to report overhaul findings and details of scrapped parts to the OEM.
B.
This ACMM can only be used in conjunction with applicable and authorized CMMs: refer
to Figures 1 to 20.
C.
This ACMM must be accomplished in full to satisfy the requirements of the ATA 32
Special Detailed Inspection tasks in the A318, A319, A320 and A321 Maintenance
Review Board Reports that define the minimum scheduled maintenance requirements of
a landing gear overhaul.
D.
Tooling
(1)
The tools required to complete the overhaul tasks are listed in each of the
applicable CMMs for the nose landing gear complete.

A.
Preliminary Considerations
NOTE: Refer to Figures 23 and 24 Diagram of Processes for a summary of the
overhaul procedure that follows.
(1)
Traceability documentation for all parts whose part number is listed in the Airbus
A318, A319, A320 and A321 ALS Part 1 & Part 4 must be supplied with the Nose
Landing Gear and be available before restoration commences.
NOTE: These procedures are applicable only for the Safran Landing
Systems part numbers that are listed in the applicable CMMs.
B.
Remove the Nose Landing Gear complete from the aircraft: refer to the Airbus AMM and
deliver all parts listed in the applicable CMMs to the Repair and Overhaul Company. The
Nose Landing Gear must be received, fully assembled by the Repair and Overhaul
Company. The condition of the Nose Landing Gear should be agreed between the
Operator and the Repair and Overhaul Company to establish damage that may exist
prior to receipt of the gear by the Repair and Overhaul Company.
NOTE: If the Nose Landing Gear is not to be delivered as a complete unit, this
must be agreed in advance of receipt of the gear by the Repair and
Overhaul Company.
(1)
Refer to the Service Bulletins and check and record all Line Replaceable Units
(LRUs) for the current modification state.
NOTE: Check if Inspection Service Bulletin 580-32-3166 is applicable.
(2)
Safran Landing Systems recommend that you discard used and use new standard
parts prefixed: AN, MS, NAS and S during the assembly process at overhaul.
NOTE: Replace standard parts.
(3)
-
Safran Landing Systems tells you that all seals, split pins, backing rings and
lockwire must be replaced with new parts during the assembly process at overhaul.
NOTE: Safran Landing Systems recommends that identification plates
(where removed) and shims are replaced with new parts.

Disassemble the Nose Landing Gear into LRUs: refer to DISASSEMBLY in the
applicable CMM(s).

For Components not subject to overhaul (as shown in INTRODUCTION,Table 2):
refer to DISASSEMBLY in the applicable CMM.
(3)
Fully disassemble Components requiring overhaul (as shown in Table 1), and
continue from para 1.E.: refer to DISASSEMBLY in the applicable CMM.
CAUTION: FOR COMPONENTS REQUIRING OVERHAUL, REMOVE AND DISCARD
ALL BUSHES, SWAGED BEARINGS AND INTERFERENCE FIT

E.
Inspection and Tests of Components not Subject to Overhaul including dressings
(1)
Visually inspect the LRU for indications of damage or corrosion: refer to CHECK in
the applicable CMM.
(2)
If the part is a flexible hose, rigid pipe assembly or an electrical harness do the
procedures that follow:
(a)
Electrical Harnesses
1
Clean the electrical harnesses: refer to CLEANING in the applicable
CMM.
2
Check the drain holes in the conduit are clear and can drain.
3
Visually examine the external condition of the electrical harness conduit
and connectors: refer to CHECK in the applicable CMM.

NOTE: To make sure that subsequent resistance checks are
satisfactory check the bonding point at the back of the
connector.
4
Do tests to the electrical harness: refer to TESTING AND FAULT
ISOLATION in the applicable CMM.

Hydraulic Hoses and Pipe Assemblies

Clean all hydraulic hoses (flexible) and pipe assemblies (rigid) internally
and externally: refer to CLEANING in the applicable CMM.

Visually inspect the external condition of the hydraulic hoses and pipe
assemblies: refer to CHECK in the applicable CMM. Carefully examine
the end fittings for corrosion or damage to threads.

For rigid pipe assemblies, test for deformation or damage: refer to
M-DLPS1012-2-2.

If the inspection and tests in para 2.I are not satisfactory then examine
the:

Identification labels

Fluid type labels

Flow direction labels

Protective heat shrink sleeves to make sure that they are not
damaged or split and that the labels can be read.

If a label is damaged, split or cannot be read, install a new label and
heat shrink sleeve.

NOTE: You can use an oversize heat shrink sleeve to the part
which is identified in the CMM (refer to the IPL of the
applicable CMM).

Do a final visual inspection of the part: refer to CHECK in the
applicable CMM. Go to para 2.I and complete the final assembly

Install blanking caps in the ends of the hydraulic hoses and pipe
assemblies where they will not be immediately installed to the LRU: refer
to M-DLPS1007-2.

Perform the Test and Fault Isolation. Go to para 2.H. and complete the
final assembly and inspection process.
If the part is not a hydraulic hose/pipe assembly or electrical harness perform the
procedure that follows:
(a)
Do the function and leakage tests to LRUs: refer to TESTING AND FAULT
ISOLATION in the applicable CMM.
(b)
If the tests in para 2.E.(3)(a) are satisfactory do a dimensional check: refer to
FITS AND CLEARANCES (Initial manufacturing limits) in the applicable CMM.

The LRUs that do not pass the dimensional check must be corrected:
refer to para 2.E.(3)(c) 1 to 7.

The LRUs that do pass the dimensional check must be tested. Go to
para 1.F.(6) and complete the final assembly and inspection process.

satisfactory or in case of damage.
NOTE: Chromium oxide on aluminium components can be subject to

(1)
Visually inspect each part: refer to CHECK in the applicable CMM.
(2)
For parts that are identified: refer to CHECK in the applicable CMM.
(a)
Perform dimensional checks: refer to the (initial manufacturing limits only) in
FITS AND CLEARANCES of the applicable CMM.
NOTE: If the component dimensions are not within the initial
manufacturing tolerances stated in FITS AND CLEARANCES
and an Approved repair, production or repair concession has
been applied to a component, refer to that repair or concession
for approved dimensions.

NOTE: In-service wear limits are not applicable to landing gear
inspection criteria at overhaul. In-service wear limits are
applicable only when unscheduled removals occur for repair
between TBO thresholds.
(3)
Inspect the springs as detailed in CHECK in the applicable CMM.
(4)
Do a full NDT check: refer to tables in CHECK in the applicable CMM.
(5)
The examination of the components para 2.G.(1) and (2) can be done in any
sequence at the discretion of the repair and overhaul company.

Due to the Safe Life Landing Gear Design Concept, the OEM, Airbus and Airworthiness
Authorities require Operators and/or MROs to report any damage or deterioration found
during the overhaul of the Landing Gear. Damage or deterioration includes corrosion,
wear and accidental damage. Operators and/or MROs are also required to report details
of repair or scrap and the reasons for scrap.
This requirement must be included in the Overhaul work scope and included in the return
conditions to the operator.
Any corrosion findings on structural parts exceeding Level 1 corrosion must be reported
to the OEM in accordance with the A318, A319, A320 and A321 MRBR Appendix 11
requirements.The Corrosion Level definitions are stated in the Corrosion Prevention and
Control Program (CPCP) rules in the Structures Section of the A318, A319, A320 and
A321 MRBR.
The above information is necessary for Airbus, the Landing Gear manufacturer and the
Airworthiness Authorities to monitor the continued airworthiness and performance of the
landing gear at fleet level.
It is also requested that NIL FINDINGS are reported as this can provide justification for a
future escalation of the Time Between Overhauls (TBO).
Complete a copy of the Landing Gear Overhaul Findings Report Form (as shown on the
following pages) with all of the required information and send it to:

Alternatively, if a different reporting format is used for either scrap or repair then it must
contain the following minimum details for all items listed in the MRBR section:
– CMM
– Part number
– Serial number

– Finding(s) (including detailed information for corrosion findings)
– Reason for scrap.
