Definition of Faith
*Oxford Dictionary
Faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
*Merriam webster Dictionary
Allegiance to duty or a person, fidelity to one’s promises, sincerity of intentions.
*Cambridge Dictionary
A strong belief in the existence of something especially without proof.
*NIV defines faith as what we hope for and certain of what we do not see [Hebrews 11:1]
*KJV defines faith as ‘Substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen [Hebrews
11:1]
*Amp defines faith as the confirmation, the title deed) of the things we hope for, being the
proof of things, we do not see and the conviction of their reality/faith perceiving as real fact,
what is not revealed to the senses/fact [Hebrews 11:1]
*I Matthew Musa Atizwun defines faith as ‘capture the real and be sure f t even when t is yet to
be manifested physically’. A picture you have in your heart that is yet to be seen or senses.
Stability in faith
Stability in faith refers to a consistent and unwavering trust in God, even in the midst of
challenges, uncertainties, or difficulties. It is a spiritual anchor that keeps us grounded and
secure in our relationship with God. Job 1:1-22, Job 19:25, Genesis 12:1-5, Genesis 21: 1-7
Some key aspects of stability in faith
1. Psalm 16:8-9 ‘I have set the Lord always before me, because e is at my right hand, I shall
not be shaken. Therefore, y heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices, my flesh also
dwells secured’.
2. Matthew 7:24-25 ‘Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be
like a wise man who bult his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the flood came,
and the winds blew and beat n that house, but it did not fall, because it had been
founded on the rock’.
Characteristics of stability in faith:
1. Unwavering trust: Stability in faith means trusting God’s character, promises, and
sovereignty, even when circumstances are uncertain. Genesis 39:20-21, Daniel 3:1-25.
2. Consistency: It involves constantly seeking God, praying, and applying biblical principles to
our lives James 5: 13-15, 1peter 2:23-24.
3. Perseverance: Stability in faith requires perseverance through trials, difficulties, and
spiritual battles.
4. Hope: It is anchored in hope of God’s promises including eternal life, forgiveness, and
transformation.
Examples of Men and Women of Faith
Abraham: He trusted God’s promises despite impossible circumstances [Romans 4: 18-22]
Moses: He led the Israelites out of Egypt, trusting in God’s presence and power [Hebrews
11:27]
Jesus: Demonstrated perfect faith in God’s plan, even in the face of crucifixion [Hebrews
12:2]
Woman of Canaan: Matthew 15
Benefits
1. Peace: Stability in faith brings peace even in turbulent times (Philippians 4:7)
2. Confidence: It gives us boldness in God’s presence, guidance and provision (Hebrews
13:6)
3. Resilience: Stability in faith helps us bounce back from setbacks, failures and
disappointment Psalm 34:17-18.
4. Fruitfulness: It enables us to bear spiritual fruits such as love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)
Cultivating Stability in Faith
1. Regular prayer: Develop a consistent prayer for your life, seeking God’s guidance,
wisdom, and strength (Luke 18:1-8).
2. Scripture meditation: Reflect on God’s word, applying its principles and promises o
your life (Jeremiah 2229:11, psalm 23:1-6, 1 Corinthians 15:10)
3. Community: Surrender yourself with believers who encourage, support and
challenge you to grow in your faith (Hebrews 10:24-25).
4. Worship: Engage in worship, celebrating God’s presence, power and love in your
life (Matthew 2:1-12, Acts 2:42-47).
