How to insert footnotes:
.2
Step 1: In Microsoft Word, open the “References” tab located at the top of the screen.
Step 2: In the “References” tab, click the “Insert Footnote” button. This will create two
superscript numbers.
One of those numbers will be in the main body of the text, the other will be at the
bottom of the page, the “footer.”
The footer is automatically kept separate from the main body of the text.
Word will assign numbers to footnotes and will update these numbers if you add in

Step 3: After the number in the footer, write in your citation in Chicago format, like so:
NOTE: Chicago Style footnotes are formatted differently from bibliography
citations. Ex. First Name Last Name instead of Last name, First Name.
If you cite the same thing a second time, use a short form for subsequent citations.
Lastname, “Title,” Page.
If you cite the same thing twice in a row after you have cited it for the first time, write
“Ibid., page number” in the footnote. Ibid always refers to the citation directly
preceding it. Ibid is short for the Latin expression “ibidem,” which means “in the
same place.”
