Topic
Social media and its impact on marketing in business
Objectives
1. To identify how social media contributes to marketing the business
2. To explain how customers interact with the business by using social media.
3. To state the factors that influenced the business to use social media
4. To determine whether customers prefer to interact with the business using social
media.
Background
A social media platform is a virtual community or network that allows people to create,
share, and exchange information and ideas. Social Media Marketing focuses on social
platforms to promote a business, increase audience growth, and increase sales. With the
rise of social media, businesses can reach out to new, current, and potential customers
with greater ease and success. The social media platforms include Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
Many people use these platforms to ask questions, leave reviews, or express their
opinions about a business. It seems that consumers prefer to interact with businesses via
social media as they can do so from the comfort of their homes. However this is not
necessarily so as the population is aging and older persons may prefer to shop in stores
rather than online and many of them are not familiar with the many social media
networks.
As aspiring entrepreneurs we selected this topic to find out if consumers prefer to
interact with businesses using social media. This will help us in arranging our businesses
in the future to maximize profit. Our research will also impact society in that it will
provide a reference point for businesses to position themselves in the marketplace
Methodology
The researchers will be using two instruments for the methodology - questionnaire and
interview
Thirty questionnaires containing eight questions each were randomly distributed to a
number of residents in the Malvern community in St. Elizabeth. This method was chosen
by our group because it was quite an easier way to gather needed information.
The researchers encountered three limitations with the questionnaire and the interview.
Some persons were unable to meet our five-day deadline for returning the questionnaire
and due to this we only collected 20.
The three small business owners that consented to be interviewed were reluctant to
answer the six questions we prepared as they thought we were prying too deep into their
business affairs. We therefore did not get all the information we needed to ensure that
our research was replicable.
The data gathered was later presented on charts and analyzed qualitatively. It took 4
weeks to gather information and complete the research.
