Symbolism in literature is a literary device where symbols are used to represent ideas,
emotions or concepts that go beyond their literal meaning. Symbols can be objects,
characters, figures, colors or even events.

Butterflies: Symbolize transformation and change. Just like a caterpillar transforms
into a butterfly, this can represent personal growth and new beginnings.

Doves: Represent peace and harmony. Doves are often used in literature and art to
signify the hope for tranquility and resolve.

Skulls: Commonly symbolize death or mortality. They can remind us of the
inevitability of death.

The Color Black: Often symbolizes darkness, mourning or evil. In literature, it can
represent fear or the unknown.

The Owl: Typically symbolizes wisdom and knowledge. Owls are often associated
with intelligence and the ability to see things clearly.

Chains: Represent bondage or restriction. They can symbolize a lack of freedom or
the idea of being trapped in a situation.

The Sun: Symbolizes life, energy and positivity. In many cultures, the sun is a source
of light and warmth, representing hope and new beginnings.
