Self – Evaluation
1. This question addresses the issue of the child speaking more than one
language. This question is to identify what language the child prefers to use. Unit 4-2
under Teacher roles says, “The understanding and acceptance of dialectic differences
is essential” This question is going to improve literacy development because the
teacher can use this information to make lessons inclusive of all ethnic backgrounds
and use differentiated instruction to incorporate the child's most used language.
2. This question addresses the issue of commonly used language in the home.
This question is to identify what language the family uses at home the most. In Unit
4-5 it says “Literacy interactions take place in the home” Teaching with this in mind
allows the teacher to try to tailor a lesson to the child and meet them where they are
developmentally.

3. This question addresses the use of a dialect in a different language with the
opportunity to use English words. language. Unit 4-3 says, “Build on what the child
already knows” and Unit 4-4 says. “Encourage the use of books” which backs up my
argument. The purpose is to make the child comfortable with introducing English
words while still providing them the comfort of their home. This would help the
teacher teach both sets of words in their language and English allowing them a wider
vocabulary bank.
4. This question addresses cultural traditions making for an inclusive
environment for the child. Unit 4-4 says “Promote children’s biculturalism to help
build family connection” and Unit 4-5 says, “Try to understand family traditions”. In
this question a teacher will be able to add lesson plans using cultural traditions to
make the child feel included. We want to celebrate the family and what they stand for
which makes the child feel welcome in the classroom.
