P1 Essay Composition
Total Time Given: 1.15 hours
Plan 10 minutes
Write 55 minutes
Revise 10 minutes
Plan
Survey the exam material.
Skim the qp.
Shortlist preferably 2, or a maximum of 3, topics by scanning.
Select / Choose 1* topic (simpler & commoner the better).
Brainstorm (quickly) for ideas & facts jotting them down.
Think of a tentative, REASONABLE, TS: an imperative.
Outine your response (6 paragraphs with their main sentence points).
All this will help in making a good enough ‘mental draft’ [Draft 1].
*Avoid choosing a DISCURSIVE ESSAY as it is harder to write unless you’ve the right content.
‘Your country’ essays can be snares at times.
Write
Keeping your TS ALWAYS in mind write out your response.
Do so most carefully without hurrying: THINK & WRITE!
Follow your outline as far as feasible.
The overall essay composition [Draft 2] ought to follow scrupulously
our TEMPLATE.
Revise
Go through the entire essay you’ve drafted.
Correct any glaring error ― whether language or fact / opinion.
Then, concentrate on UoE mistakes including spellings.
Focus on common grammatical errors you make.
WORK [Draft 3] till the last minute of the exam duration!
TIP!
Good writing is all about free-writing, then drafting, and re-drafting, even
re-redrafting . . . ! REVISE―REVISE―REVISE.
