Excellence in motor protection
The CEP9 is the new generation electronic motor protection, communication and monitoring relay from Sprecher + Schuh.
The modular design allows the expansion of protection and monitoring features as well as I/O to meet any complex application.
It allows for simplified wiring and provides energy management features required of modern motor control systems.
Modular design
Fully expanded system
For exact application needs with The I/O expansion bus provides for up to an additional
16 digital inputs in 24 V DC, 110 V AC and/or 240 V AC, plus
eight output relays, and 12 analogue inputs and four analogue
outputs, along with panel mounted operator stations to allow
status and control functions to be performed from the front of the
switchboard.

The CEP9, to complement the overload functionality, provides a full
range of trip and warning protections with stall, jam, underload,
current imbalance and ground fault which are all adjustable in trip
level and time delay.

full diagnostic information which allows for predictive maintenance
data to ensure maximum plant efficiency and maximises uptime for

Modular design
Communication modules
CEP9-ECM
The CEP9 has flexibility with communications options and reduced engineering
time with integration into Logix, to make this the ideal overload for motor control
applications in an automation system.
• EtherNet/IP Control module The control module is available in 24 V DC which has 6 DI and 3 OR, or 110 V AC
and 240 V AC with 4 DI and 3 OR. Optional control module versions with inputs
for additional protection functions of PTC thermistor and external ground fault
toroid are available.

• Easy automation system integration • Network connectivity • Native I/O Sensing module The sensing module is available in different versions, “I” - current, “IG” current and internal ground fault (0.5-5 A), “VIG” - current, internal ground fault
and voltage. Each version is available in the four current ranges which cover from
0.5 to 200 A, with conections to suit your application requirements.
Current monitoring functions
The CEP9 electronic overload relay allows the user to monitor the following
operational data over a communications network:
• Individual phase currents - in amps and as a percentage of motor FLC
• Average current - in amps and as a percentage of motor FLC
• Percentage of thermal capacity utilised
• Current imbalance percentage

Expansion modules
Customisable
Modularity allows the CEP9 to be customisable to fit your application needs. Expansion I/O
The expansion bus can cater for up to four digital I/O and four analogue I/O modules for complex control
fuctions. The digital I/O module has four inputs and two relay outpus, with 24 V DC, 110 V and 240 V AC
versions. The analogue I/O module has three inputs, selectable to current, voltage or for RTD/PT-/NTC
resistance monitoring, and one output selectable to current or voltage. The PLC can also use this I/O
directly for other functions, and not just as associated with the relay fuctions
Expansion operator station
The operator stations mount into a standard 22.5 mm hole, and they provide diagnostic LEDs which allow
the user to view the status of the CEP9 relay from the outside of a cubicle, with the pushbuttons which
can be used for motor control logic. The diagnostic station contains a display and navigation buttons that
allows the user to view and edit parameters in the CEP9 relay. Both can be used to upload and download
parameter configuration data from the base relay.
Expansion power supply
The expansion power supply is used to provide power to the expansion where there is more than
one expansion module and operator station is connected. Available in either 24 V DC and 110-240 V AC.
External ground fault toroids
The CEP7-CBCT core balance toroids are used in conjunction with the GP control modules for ground
fault protection. These allow for protection from 20 mA up to 5 A.
