GOLDEN YEARS HAVEN: A COMPREHENSIVE GERIATRIC HOME
AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Project Overview
The "Golden Years Haven" project aims to establish a comprehensive geriatric home
and community development project in Luwero, Uganda. The project will provide
quality care and support to elderly individuals, promoting their physical, mental, and
emotional well-being. The project will also incorporate farming activities and a leisure
park to provide therapeutic benefits, promote sustainability, and enhance the quality of
life for residents.
Objectives
1. Provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive living environment for elderly individuals.
2. Offer comprehensive care services, including medical, nutritional, and emotional
support.
3. Promote social interaction, community engagement, and mental stimulation among
residents.
4. Foster partnerships with local healthcare providers, community organizations, and
government agencies to ensure sustainable and effective care.
5. Create employment opportunities for local caregivers, nurses, and support staff.
6. Establish a sustainable farming system to provide fresh produce for residents and
promote eco-friendly practices.
7. Develop a leisure park to provide recreational activities, promote mental stimulation,
and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Target Group
Elderly individuals (60+ years) in Luwero and surrounding districts, with a focus on
those who are vulnerable, marginalized, or without family support.
Project Components
1. *Geriatric Home*: A purpose-built facility with private and shared rooms, communal
areas, and support facilities (e.g., kitchen, laundry, medical clinic).
2. *Farming Activities*: A 5-acre farm will be established to provide fresh produce for
residents, promote sustainability, and offer therapeutic benefits.
3. *Leisure Park*: A 3-acre leisure park will be developed to provide recreational
activities, promote mental stimulation, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
4. *Community Engagement*: Partnerships will be fostered with local healthcare
providers, community organizations, and government agencies to ensure sustainable
and effective care.
Land Requirements
A total of 12-15 acres (4.9-6.1 hectares) of land will be required for the project,
including:
1. 2-3 acres (0.8-1.2 hectares) for the geriatric home and support facilities.
2. 5 acres (2 hectares) for farming activities.
3. 3 acres (1.2 hectares) for the leisure park.
4. 2-3 acres (0.8-1.2 hectares) for future expansion or development.
Implementation Plan
1. *Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study* (6 months): Conduct a comprehensive
needs assessment and feasibility study to determine the project's viability.
2. *Land Acquisition and Design* (9 months): Acquire the required land and design the
geriatric home, farm, and leisure park.
3. *Construction and Infrastructure Development* (18 months): Construct the geriatric
home, farm, and leisure park, and develop the necessary infrastructure (e.g., roads,
utilities).
4. *Staff Recruitment and Training* (6 months): Recruit and train staff, including
caregivers, nurses, and support staff.
5. *Project Launch and Operations* (3 months): Launch the project and begin
operations.
Budget
The total budget for the project is estimated to be $2.5 million, broken down into:
1. *Land Acquisition and Design*: $500,000
2. *Construction and Infrastructure Development*: $1.2 million
3. *Staff Recruitment and Training*: $200,000
4. *Equipment and Furniture*: $300,000
5. *Miscellaneous (Contingency Fund)*: $300,000
