QC Regional Manager Duties & Responsibilities
11/20/2023
To: Todd McDaniel
The following is a list of activities the Regional QC Manager is expected to manage.
Recruit and place inspectors on jobsites as needed. This includes recognizing
young, potential candidates to groom to become inspectors and eventually site QC
Managers. We expect all site QC Managers to be AWS certified welding
inspectors (CWI) and QC Inspectors to be at minimum Level II ASNT. Work
with the other Regional QC Managers to move our key Inspectors/Managers and
keep them working. Inform Quality Director if any Level II certs are needed.
Submit employment requisition, IT (computer) requisition, and Truck request if
applicable.
Get involved heavily on front end of project with Systems Turnover Manager and
QC Data Support Specialist to ensure QC Manager is setting up job correctly and
understands his scope of work and all job specs, standards, and expectations.
Ensure all welding and job tracking system is set up and QC Manager Training is
completed. This also includes purchasing shelving or office supplies that may be
needed for office organization for QC Manager and Quality Team.
Incorporate the GOAL ZERO Punchlist Incentive Program across all projects. Get
involved with weekly Quality meetings to address any concerns or praises with all
site personnel (preferably after weekly safety meeting)
Learn our QC program to ensure consistent usage on all projects. Vitally
important that all projects use the exact same system, learning our welding and
job tracking program is extremely important because you will be assisting QC
managers with questions on its use. It’s also the tool we use for welder continuity.
Engage with client QC reps to get feedback of their perception of quality of
service from our QC dept. Build relationships with client QA.
Manage all code work aggressively. This includes building all Routine & Repair
packages and getting all required documentation and nameplate to the jobsite.
Coordinating field inspections from the AI, intercepting the AI @ the field
location to ensure all code files are properly filled out. Ensure all code files are
complete, all documentation in order, all requirements of our QC Manual are met,
and the code file is tracked and submitted to corp. for archiving. Ensure Systems
Turnover Manager receives original R-1 form and electronic copy of package to
submit to NBIC on all Re Rates or Alterations.
Audit all your jobsites consistently. This means first learning the auditing system
and grading criteria. We expect consistent, impartial audits based strictly on the
grading criteria. Audits shall be based on the activity and duration of the project.
At least two audits per month per job should be audited and reported back to
Excel Project Manager onsite & account managers at corporate office. This is our
tool for being a better company and preventing a disaster at the end of projects.
Build ITP Plans with site QC Manager for your jobs that require QC Plans. The
(ITP) Inspection and Test Plan will specify the inspections and/or testing to be
performed, acceptance criteria, the frequency of the inspection and/or test, the
personnel responsible for the performance and record of each inspection, and the
method of documentation. Do not agree to any NDE requirements that are not in
our contract. Present our tracking software to client and push B31.3. 5% per
welder.
Complete support of your projects and project inspectors. Be the source of any
needs that your site or site QC may need. Any communications between the
client’s QC’s & Project Coordinator shall be first communicated with Excel’s
Project Manager to ensure the projects profitability of the project’s estimate. Read
and understand the contract before committing to anything that would impact the
project from a cost standpoint. An example would be additional NDE, outside of
the scope. Everything must be in writing. Client QA cannot ask us to do
something just because. It must be in the client’s specs and our contract.
We expect you to conduct yourself in a professional manner, no matter what the
situation may be. Learn to build a relationship with the client on the front end.
Assist in client presentations, estimator questions, bid reviews, and company
meetings. Keep site supervision, client, and PM informed of any concerns or
changes that may affect the project. Work closely with project team to resolve
issues or concerns and to increase or decrease QC manpower as needed.
Inform System Turnover Manager and Site QC Manager when job is approx. 90%
complete to ensure all documentation is correct, in the correct Sharefile folders,
and all required closeout documents are completed (i.e. Job Completion Form,
CCC, Customer Satisfaction Survey, NDE clear).
Inform System Turnover Manager of any welders that are unsatisfactory. This is
any one welder that is above a 5% rejection rate. This should be considered on a
case-by-case basis.
