Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins
1
The rice & pasta contain a lot of starch. Starch is a type of carbohydrate or
carbs in short (нүүрс ус). After you have eaten starch, the body breaks it down
to make a sugar called glucose. Glucose is the fuel that your cells use for
respiration, to release energy. So, carbohydrates (starch, sugar, etc…) are
needed to give you energy.
3
Fried zucchinis and soup
contain fats and oils.
Fats are solid at normal
t⁰, and oils are liquid.
Fats and oils give you
energy. They are also
needed to make cell
membranes.

2
The beef contains a lot of
protein. Protein is important for
making new cells in the body. So,
you need protein to help the
body to grow, or to repair itself if
it gets damaged.
Protein is also needed to make
haemoglobin (oxygen delivery in
red blood cells) and antibodies
(fight infections)

Energy stores
Nutrients
We don’t eat all the time, but we need energy all the time.
We get almost all of our energy from carbohydrates (carbs)
and fats that we eat.
If we run out of those, then protein can be used for energy.

Store quite a lot of fat

Store quite a lot of fat
Fats in the body (underneath the skin
and around some of the organs) are
long-term energy stores.
Also, act as heat insulation.
Seals, for instance, have a lot of fat
stores underneath their skin (do not lose
heat - BLUBBER).
