Field Trip/Site Visit and Report Assignment (25 marks & 25%
of course work). Due date: Friday 25 April 2025, 11pm (Fiji Time)
Instructions
This assignment requires students to take a field trip or site visit to a location that is actively involved in effective
and efficient resource and environment management. This site could be a landfill, a private company, a government
agency, or any other facility that practices sustainable resource and environmental management and is easily
accessible in the student’s country of residence.
There are two parts to this assignment:
Part 1: Field Trip/Site Visit:
• A form is provided to be filled during the field trip/site visit and submitted for marking. Provided in
Page 2 of this document. Students must print this template and take with them during the field trip or
site visit. Must be provided as Appendix 1 in the main Field Trip Report (Part 2).
Part 2: Field Trip Report: (1000 words limit - not including references & cover page):

writing their report.
Students can do this assignment individually or in groups maximum of 3 members.
Submission: The field trip report must have the following structure details:

Cover page: Title of the Report: E.g., Field Trip Report: Resource Management at…… (location)’, student
name(s) & ID number (s) (if in groups), course code, due date.
Executive Summary: Purpose of the field trip, key observations, and findings (limit to 2 observations) and
recommendations (limit to 2 key recommendations).
Introduction: Background information on the site visited, relevance to environmental and resource
economics.
Objectives of the field trip or site visit: Learning goals (limit to 2 specific goals, e.g., understanding resource
allocation or effective environment management, observing policies application), research questions (limit 2
questions you aimed explore during the trip/visit).
Methodology: Approach taken (e.g., site visit, interviews, group discussion), tools and techniques used (e.g.,
cost benefit-analysis, economic valuation of the ecosystem services).
Observations & Findings: Site overview (e.g., describe environmental characteristics, resources), Resource
management practices (limit to 2 practices observed, e.g., sustainable farming, conservation), economic
aspects (e.g., pricing, externalities, public goods), environmental issues (limit to 2 significant issues, e.g.,
pollution, land degradation).
Analysis: Link to theoretical concepts (e.g., tragedy of the commons, market failure), Critical evaluation
(limit to 2 evaluations, e.g., effectiveness of management practices).
Recommendations: Policy recommendations (limit to 2 recommendations, e.g., introduce taxes, subsidies, or
reforms), further research or action (Limit to 1 area for further investigation or action). Highlight this
as the assignment topic (for further research) which is due in Week 12.
Conclusion: Summary of Key Insights (limit to 2 insights learned), Personal reflection (limited to 150 words
on how the field trip enhanced your understanding).
