Design Assignment
A. INSPIRATION
Designers look for inspiration in various sources such as nature, culture, arts and technology and many more. In this assignment you will use the
Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations as your inspiration.
Familiarize yourself with the Sustainable Development Goals on the United Nations website. What does it mean to have a sustainable lifestyle? Create a
visual presentation about what sustainable lifestyle is in the future using both images and words.
This assignment is a collage assignment. Prepare a visual moodboard about sustainable lifestyle in the future in A4 size. Moodboard is a visual tool that
communicates concepts and visual ideas. It is an arrangement of multiple images, texts, colors, materials, environments, objects, etc. In this
assignment you can use images from magazines, printed pictures, photos and other materials to show your idea of sustainable lifestyle.
Materials:
Paper A4, glue, magazine cutouts, colored papers, printouts, photos, household materials, pencils and markers, etc.
Evaluation criteria:
Visual presentation, creativity, ability to analyze inspiration.
B. ALARM CLOCK OF THE FUTURE
Smart and Sustainable designers combine functional and aesthetic values in their work. Design an alarm clock or other device that will wake you up,
that is fitting for a sustainable lifestyle in the future. Use the moodboard about sustainable lifestyle in the future that you created in assignment A as the
base for ideation. Pay attention to the individuality and functionality of your products.
Create at least 5 different sketches and ideas for an alarm clock or other device that will wake you up. Draw them on the same A3 paper sheet. Sketches
should indicate the ideas for product look, function, materials and pay attention to sustainable lifestyle.
Materials:
Paper A3 / A4, pencils (2-6 B)
Evaluation criteria:
Ability to come up with ideas, creativity, drawing skills. All sketches must be original and drawn by you.
C. PICTURE OF ALARM CLOCK IN USE
Select one idea from design assignment B. Create a picture where the alarm clock or other device that will wake you up is in use. The picture should be
informative and visually interesting. The picture should contain a drawing of a person/persons using the product.
Make a color picture on an A3 paper sheet. You can use colored pencils, crayons, paints, felt tip pens etc.
Materials:
Paper A3, colors, pens, paints...
Evaluation criteria:
Use of colors, composition and visual layout, ability to describe a person, proportions. The picture must be original and made by you.
