REVISION.: R0 DATE: 21.03.2018 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION 5.1 FIRE STORAGE Fire pumps shall be Provided at Terrace level 900LPM Booster pump for down comers of firefighting. Internal hydrant will protect the building internally. Yard hydrants shall also be provided. The capacities of OHT are designed as per NBC which are listed below building wise. (As per Table 07 National Building Code 2016 Section 4) BUILDING High Speed Rail Training Institute UNDER GROUND TANK CAPACITY, mtr3 Not Required OVERHEAD mtr3 TANK CAPACITY, 15,000 Litre X 02Nos. As per NBC Under Ground firestorage tank for Fire Protection System has been not Required. Fire department connection shall also be provided at location of easily excess from Road Side. These shall comprise of Nos. 63 mm dia. male outlets capable of directly feeding the overhead Fire water tank through non return valves. These shall be mounted in specially identified boxes. 5.2 HYDRANT DOWNCOMERS AND HOSE REEL SYSTEM Hydrant riser shall be not required as per NBC 2016. Hydrant Down comer provided at all the building floor staircase landing or 30m distance which is easier to excess. Each Hydrant Down comers shall be covered 1000Sq.m area. Water supply to the hydrant down comers shall be fed directly from the motor driven 900lpm fire pump. This system shall consist of single hydrant outlet landing valve installed at a height of 1000 mm above finished floor level and a separate tap off for hose reel associated with hoses, branch pipe and nozzles for each floor of the building on each riser. The system shall be designed hydraulically to meet the flow and pressure requirement as per NBC. Hydrant accessories such as hose reel, branch pipe and nozzles etc., shall be provided in separate enclosures/cabinet with glass panels. For High Speed Rail 4 MEPIC ENGINEERING DESIGN ASSOCIATES LLP. DOC.: TI3-GD-FF-001 DESIGN BASIS PROJECT : Lodging Facility for MumbaiAhmedabad High Speed Railway Project REPORT CUBE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING LTD. REVISION.: R0 DATE: 21.03.2018 Training Institute 6 (Six) Down comers and Hose reel Provided per Floor as per NBC 2016. In the event of fire, if the hydrant or hose reel are opened, the pressure in the hydrant main will drop due to the resulting flow, thereby the Booster pump comes in operation. 5.3 AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEMS Sprinkler heads shall be made of brass bulb sufficiently strong, in compression to withstand any pressure, surge or hammer likely to occur in the system. The yoke & body shall be made of high quality SS / gun metal brass with arms streamlined to ensure minimum interference with the spread of water. The deflector of suitable design shall be fitted to give even distribution of water over the area commanded by the sprinkler. The sprinklers shall have 15 mm nominal size of the orifice for ordinary hazard. The orifice size shall be marked on the body or the deflector of the sprinkler. Metal guards for protection of sprinkler against accidental or mechanical damage shall be provided. SPRINKLER INSTALLATION For High Speed Rail Training Institute, Sprinklers are not required as per NBC 2016. 5.4 FLOW SWITCH Flow switch shall have a paddle made of flexible and sturdy material of the width to fit within the pipe bore. The terminal box shall be mounted over the paddle/ pipe through a connecting socket. The Switch shall be potential free in either NO or NC position as required. The switch shall be able to trip and make / break contact on the operation of a single sprinkler head. The terminal box shall have connections for wiring to the Annunciation Panel. The flow switch shall have connections for wiring the seat shall be of S.S to the Annunciation Panel. The flow switch shall have IP: 55 protections. The flow switches work at a triggering threshold band with (flow rate) of 4 to 10 GPM. Further, it shall have a ‘Retard’ to compensate for line leakage or intermittent flows. 5 MEPIC ENGINEERING DESIGN ASSOCIATES LLP. DOC.: TI3-GD-FF-001 DESIGN BASIS PROJECT : Lodging Facility for MumbaiAhmedabad High Speed Railway Project REPORT CUBE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING LTD. REVISION.: R0 DATE: 21.03.2018 5.5 FIRE STARATEGY FOR BUILDING. Separately, Underground Storage for fire not Required as per NBC 2016. Domestic raw water capacity provided 70,000 liter. Suction from domestic UGT to fire OHT filling through HPN System provided at pump room. To keep the fire water from stagnating a return line has been provided from OH fire tank to UG water domestic tank. This Line fitted with a timer based Solenoid valve which will be set to operate for about 30 minutes and drain the fire tank, which will concurrently be filled by Hydro-pneumatic system. After this pre-set time interval the solenoid will de-energies and the water circulation in tank will stop. 5.6 PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Portable fire extinguishers of 4.5 Kg Co2 and 6 kg DCP shall be provided as first aid fire extinguishing appliances. These extinguishers shall be suitably distributed in the entire public as well as service areas. Further, for rooms containing electrical transformers, switchgears, motors and of electrical apparatus, minimum 2 Nos. dry powder or carbon dioxide type/sand buckets extinguishers shall be additionally provided within 15 m of the apparatus. 5.7 PIPING Mild steel pipes (heavy class) as per IS: 1239 shall be provided throughout the Complex. Pipes buried below ground shall be suitably covered with bituminous 4mm thick wrapping material as per IS 10221: 2008.All pipe clamps and supports shall be fabricated from MS steel sections and shall be duly painted with primer before use at site. Pipes shall be hung by means of expandable anchor fastener of approved make and design. The hangers and clamps shall be fastened by means of mild steel nuts and bolts. The size/diameter of the anchor fastener and the clamps shall be suitable to carry the weight of water filled pipe and dead load normally encountered. 5.8 PRESSURE REGULATING VALVES For restricting pressure at lower levels in the sprinkler systems, PRV’s of appropriate sizes shall be fitted at different floor levels at the branching points from riser main. 6 MEPIC ENGINEERING DESIGN ASSOCIATES LLP. DOC.: TI3-GD-FF-001 DESIGN BASIS PROJECT : Lodging Facility for MumbaiAhmedabad High Speed Railway Project REPORT CUBE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING LTD. REVISION.: R0 DATE: 21.03.2018 6. PRESSURE RANGE/DISTRIBUTION Hydrant mains shall be such that there is a residual pressure of at least 3.5 kg / cm2 at the hydraulically farthest end. PRV’s shall limit the residual pressure in the hydrant outlets to within 7.0 kg/cm2 to avoid the excessive reaction thrust. 7. MATERIALS Underground Pipes: G.I. “C” (heavy) class with 4 mm thick wrapping and conforming to IS: 10221. Over ground Pipes: Upto and including 100 mm NB shall confirm to IS: 1239 G.I.
