What is Food Safety Hazards?
It is a biological, chemical or
physical agent or condition
of food with the potential to
cause harm or adverse
health effect when the food
is eaten.

Food-borne illness
It is defined as diseases,
usually either infectious or
toxic in nature caused by
agents that enter the body
through the ingestion of
food.

1. Biological hazards such as
microorganisms.
2. Chemical hazards such as
chemicals, pesticides, cleaning
agents and allergens.

1. Biological hazards which live
with in the food can occur from
multiple sources. These
microorganisms commonly
called germs are so small they
can only be seen under a
microscope.

microorganisms which cause
harm to human when they reach
a high level in food.

• Bacteria like salmonella,
staphylococcus aureus, bacillus
cereus
• Virus like hepatitis A, influenza
• Yeast
• Moulds
• Protozoa like guardia

incidents due to the consumption
of toxic chemical found in food or
beverages.

chemicals

plants and animals
