# Mark Scheme - The Urban Garden
1. Previous use of space (2 marks)
Award marks for:
- It was a parking lot/derelict parking lot (1)
- Evidence: "what had once been a derelict parking lot" (1)
2. Initial objections to garden project (3 marks)
Award 1 mark for each objection identified:
- "Nothing will grow here"/"The soil's too poor"
- "Who's going to maintain it?"
- "It'll just attract vandals"
3. Maya's methods of convincing people (3 marks)
Award 1 mark for each point:
- Showed research/studies about urban agriculture
- Presented plans for soil rehabilitation
- Organized a volunteer schedule
4. Understanding grandmother's meaning (4 marks)
Award marks for:
- Reference to victory gardens during war time (1)
