1) What are two things that stood out to you about this movie clip? And why did it stand
out to you?
One thing that stood out to me from this movie clip was finding out the real reason why
the girl was on the pilgrimage. We found out that her real reason was not for quitting
smoking. It was actually because she went through an abortion and has an abusive
ex-husband. This stuck out because you didn't really understand her until she pointed
out what was wrong and why she was how she was. Another thing was Tom’s outburst
at the table when he was drunk. It was the first time you got see his true emotions and
could see that the death of his son did affect him.
2) Which character did you see the most change in? And why did you notice the most
change in that particular character?
I saw the most change in the woman. Before this clip she seemed arrogant and
unaffected. In this clip that changed drastically when she hit Tom. Tom reached for the
box and so did she and they tugged for it but she slapped him in the face. We then
found out her main reason that she was on the trip. It was because she had both an
abortion and an abusive ex.
3) We are beginning to gain some clarity on the people's purposes or drives on "the
Way". Take some time to reflect on your purpose or drive in life. What is "the big thing"
(virtuous/noble thing) you think you are being called to as a person?
I think the big thing I’m being called to as a person is to just be good to others while also being
good for myself. These people in the movie are on this trip to better themselves mostly. As
everyone has their own story, it is important to make that story good. I want to continue my life
by going to college and finding a job where I can be available to have free time. I would want to
use my free time to help others and do good. In this way I can support my self and others at
once.
