Pollution Report: Causes, Effects & Solutions

WRITTEN REPORT
This group's topic was pollution, one of the most pressing environmental issues affecting our
planet. The most important and impactful kinds of pollution were the primary focus of our
research. We examined land, air, light, and water pollution, exploring their causes, effects, and
potential solutions. Our research incorporated credible sources from the internet, ensuring that
each piece was properly credited. To provide a diverse perspective on pollution, we selected
three pieces for analysis: a poem, an article, and a song, each representing different forms of
pollution.
Many articles were reviewed in preparation for this report, including "How Does Plastic Get into
the Ocean?" by IFAW and "Light Pollution" by National Geographic. These articles provided
valuable insights into how pollution spreads and its consequences for ecosystems and human
health. The editorial chosen as the highest quality, however, was "Air Pollution: The Invisible
Health Threat" by the World Health Organization. This article explains the causes and
consequences of air pollution, spreading awareness of its hidden dangers. It discusses how air
pollution affects human health, contributing to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems,
and even premature death. Additionally, the article highlights the benefits of reducing air
pollution and the importance of sustainable solutions, such as cleaner energy sources and
better urban planning.
For poetry, we analyzed "Light Pollution Poem" by James Murdock. This poem beautifully
illustrates the impact of light pollution, describing an abundance of celestial elements like
planets and stars. It contrasts the grandeur of the cosmos with the simple beauty of nature,
such as farms and trees, making the issue of light pollution feel more personal and relatable. By
depicting how artificial lighting disrupts natural cycles, the poem serves as a powerful reminder
of the need to reduce unnecessary light emissions and preserve the night sky for future
generations.
In terms of music, we examined the song "Water Pollution Rap" by Peyton Halliburton. This
song, with its engaging rhythm and lyrics, raises awareness about the dangers of water
pollution. It vividly describes the harm pollution causes to marine life and provides practical
recommendations for reducing water contamination. Through its compelling message and
creative approach, the song inspires listeners to take action in protecting water bodies from
waste, chemicals, and other pollutants.
This SBA has been a valuable learning experience for our group. It has deepened our
understanding of pollution’s serious and lasting effects on the environment. We have come to
realize that pollution is not just an abstract problem but a real and urgent issue that impacts
every aspect of life on Earth. From harming wildlife to affecting human health, pollution poses a
severe threat to the planet’s well-being. Our research has emphasized the importance of
adopting environmentally friendly practices, advocating for cleaner policies, and making small
but significant lifestyle changes to reduce our ecological footprint.
